AE86 Driveshaft too long? [SOLVED]
Hi,
i am currently replacing my completely broken Center Support Bearing and i found a problem. My 86 apparently was a SR5 with an 4AC Engine and Open Diff. When i got it, it had a 4AG and an T50 Gearbox and what i think is a T Series LSD. (It says "LSD OIL ONLY" on it and has 10 carrier to axle housing bolts) It seems that my old Center Support Bearing broke because the rear Driveshaft is too long, the new one doesent even fit the bolt holes because it needs to be moved 1-2cm to the rear. Also the Driveshaft is completely bottoming out into the Gearbox. I´ve done my research and know that there are 740mm and 760mm rear Driveshafts. BUT i already have a 740 mm rear driveshaft. I am completely stuck and have no idea what to do now. Can provide pictures for clarity |

AE86 Driveshaft too long? [SOLVED]
It looks like the axle is positioned correctly but is there a difference between SR5 and AE86 rear link arms?
Could the engine mounts be incorrect? Again, a difference between the two vehicles? I think you need to measure between the end of the gearbox and the differential drive flange, compare this to a known quantity (AE86) If that measurement is correct, suspect the front part of the prop shaft. I couldnt find a source that states a difference between SR5 and GTS rear link arms. I think its the rear Driveshaft thats the problem, since the Driveshaft bearing doesent fit properly. (Bearing would need to be moved back) The previous owner DID modify the engine mounts...to a point where a 30mm washer is required to hold it. I think so he could move the engine forward so the shaft doesent bottom out into the gearbox. But right now the engine is mounted on its original position. I will remove the driveshaft later this week and properly measure everything. |

AE86 Driveshaft too long? [SOLVED]
Can you also check the position of the gearbox mount? Maybe the previous owner needed more clearance at the front and moved it forward one bolt?
Another possibility is that the previous owner swapped in a 20 spline TE72 gearbox and mixed the two driveshafts to make it work. But as far as I could find, the two boxes are supposed to be identical in length. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

AE86 Driveshaft too long? [SOLVED]
Sorry for the wait, i tried to fix some engine problems.
So i removed the driveshaft today and measured again. Its actually 747-750mm long. So not a 740mm or 760mm one. (Rear.jpg in attachments) The front one is about 603mm long. Total length about 1350mm The transmission mount is unmodified and using the correct holes. So it would seem that my rear driveshaft is about 10mm too long, correct? Edit: Its a 22 Spline, see attachments |

AE86 Driveshaft too long? [SOLVED]
I did find that the Australian Corolla T-18 featured a 750mm tail section. I can't find any sources confirming this, but maybe someone swapped in a TE72 or AE71 tailshaft that is also different in length? I see the early coupe/liftback have a different partnumber than the sedan and also different than the AE86.
