AE86 N2 (big update)
Time for a long overdue update.
This goes back to September 2010, during my last weeks of vacation at Portugal. Began working on the 20V, and luckily had a friend driving in witha van full of tools. Kinda reminded me of the build video of Ilda Akira's Levin. Loads of tools. Lets get to work then... Tsuchiya-san helping out via satelite... Manual is a must have 20 valves, finally! Good and healthy block Engine stripped and we called it a night... morning actually Next day. Cleaning lady mode - ON Second can of oven cleaner... Carbon deposits, nothing major Magic foam at work... Internals... While waiting, it was time for me to attack the ITBs While Ricardo carried on at high pressure mode... Some late night test fitting... Day 3 Even after deep cleaning and scrubing, the ITBs were still not looking very good The silica blast takes a long time but damm it is worth it! Oil pump and throttle bodies Silica blast working miracles... water pump cleaned and ready Coolant bypass done Soon to machine a blanking plate for those The ITBs and trumpets really came out great, complete with new bolts Cling film around it and that's a job well done. The parts are still resting on that same shelf till today, and hopefully try to get the engine assembled at the end of December. Head and block are out on the machine shop to check for concentricity, redo the valve seats and calibrate the rotating masses. Now back to September 2011, I'm gonna fly to Portugal tomorrow and get my hands on the 86 again. Trackday next Sunday! In the mean time, been playing around with teh Megasquirt, trying to come up with a decent control strategy for when the engine and wiring are all sorted. Regards! |

AE86 N2 (big update)
Given that we're rolling past mid 2013, I figured it is probably time for an update.
Did some trackdays: Got the remaining 20V bit and pieces together to build the engine: At the beginning of the year and after a small misfurtune with the front end I decided that it was a good time to advance to the next phase with this AE86. My ultimate goal for this car was always to build a track only N2ish version, so I started planning, buying, dissasembling, cutting, grinding... you get the picture.... Here's the picture report First job, engine out: Car finally dismembered and a load of parts to store and tidy up: Keeping things organized: New headlights and corner lights. Gotta love new old stock Trying my luck with the dry ice: Got some designing done rollcage-wise: And back to the chassis: Got rid of the battery support and other bits and pieces in the engine bay: And finnaly the front end was fixed: Time to clean some of the parts that will be going back to the car And after some weeks the car was coming together nicelly: The N2 test trials: More chassis work: Time to kill some quarter pannels: And to fix some badly battered N2 arches: The interior was getting under way too: 4 Link system underway Got my fuel cell compartiment made, and tryed to combine low CG with a drag free underbody after the axle: Jack stands support 4 Link system almost finnished: And pedal box in plac: And that's how it is at the moment. I'll keep you guys posted 86'LEVIN Track Project |
