Apparently in the UK they pay A LOT more for their 595RS-R's, almost double.

The UK importer has been claiming off the record that there were two batches of RS-R made, one specific for mainland EU with mere UHP specs, the other is the semi-slick spec that they claim to get in the UK (the old RS-R)

Sounds like flaming pile of sh*t, but then there was a UK racer who used RS-R's and needed a new set quickly. UK couldn't deliver so he ordered a cheap set from Germany. Claims that the car was 2 seconds slower then on his previous RS-Rs. Two seconds is A LOT. The difference between Fuel saver tires and toyo R1Rs, or street tires and semi-slicks.

What's going on? I wan't to grab a set or two in 205-50, but I'm not in the market for normal summer tires

My RS-Rs are sticky as hell, on a trackday they get soft like a proper tire should. I have never tried slicks or normal semi slicks (RS-R is not a real semi slick, no matter what anybody says ) but according to Smartphone "telemetry" the cornering speed is quite the same as a 7 years old racing slick, which is really not that bad, for this price. And it turned out to be awesomely good in rain.

It costs around a 100€/piece in Hungary for a 205/50 R15.

That's just the thing, I can now get 205-50 for 72€/tire shipped...that's why I wonder if they are the same thing

If I remember correctly the peak lat G was around 1.3 or 1.4g in a fast right corner on Hungaroring

If that's true and not just a sensor jitter, then they are most definitely semi-slicks.

1.4 latG is what we see on professionally setup cars on 225-45-15 R888s. 1.6-1.7 on full slicks, no aero.
