At this stage I thought I was ready to `key`the epoxy primer on the underside and finish with a final coat over the entire underside. However, things took a serious turn for the worst....

I spotted this:



Which when I investigated further with a razorblade turned into this:



So I then tackled it with a needle-gun to reveal more

So while contemplating what to do, I found a local blasting firm and got the axle, front subframe and various suspension rods and links blasted

All elevated and ready for spraying. I used Rustbusters epoxy mastic in black; EM121





Not perfect, but it won't be seen that easily as it all goes underneath the car. I found that even though I had thinned and preheated the paint, it started to go off in the gun after a period of time, so it needed to be further thinned..

I thought I may as well do the steering rack brackets and the radiator brackets while I had paint in the gun...

That's us up to date I think. The gasket kit has arrived for the engine rebuild & I've got new crankshaft courtesy of FLOs.ie, rings, bearings, thrust washers and pump internals for the 20v BT rebuild. I have a couple of 16valve pumps that I may use in order to negate the need for the more expensive BT timing belt & risky hydraulic tensioner.
Also SQ Engineerings water kit is here and a set of cops from a Yaris.

Meantime I'm considering getting the underside blasted, if they can leave the engine bay alone as I've got is all finished and ready for topcoat...

I know! And I’d say the car would have looked fairly solid before it was stripped down

I can’t believe how well the flywheel came up! Just phosphoric acid and a red scotch pad



A few more pieces glass-blasted…



…and I’ve found some bits that needs de-rusting. Can anyone identify them?

It's been a while since I've been around a Corolla but I think those parts are some of the braces underneath the dashboard or the area inside the rear.

Got a few bits zinc plated...including the pedal boxes



...My project didn't come with much in the way of bolts or fasteners, but I happened across a guy breaking an ae86 & he was good enough to sell me his bucket of bolts:









He also sold me a strut bar, here it is cleaned-up a bit:



The camber plates benefitted from some new pillowball bearings and plated hardware:



Also Painted the coilover/struts with some Epoxy Mastic EM121
