Ae86 bulk head mod to fit hydrolic clutch?
I was lucky enough to snag an '86 GTS shell with all of the parts and rebuild engine for $1500. I am going to swap all of the parts to my 85 sr5.
As I look at different write ups for swaps I find more and more little tidbits the last write uo did not. I just cam across a thread that said to put in the hydrolic clutch from the GTS I will need to make a Modification to the bulk head. I have googled my fingers off and couldnt find an explination of what this modification is. Any help with explaining this would be much appreciated Thanks, Frank |

Probably nothing more than drilling a few correctly positioned holes.

the only thing i can guess is that in case of a 3A engine, there might be a cable operated clutch instead of a hydraulic, it could be that, but i'm not sure if the american SR5s got a cable clutch box. If it is, it might be interesting for KP61s and other k-powered cars, as it's the same box, but with a 4A bellhousing.

I just replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder dont those only exist on a hydrolic clutch? Im not sure if I have ever worked on a car without one. But that is what the mod is for; going from a cable clutch to a hydrolic one

yes, if you've changed the master and slave, there's nothing else you need to change, because you allready have the right gearbox/hydraulics in the car atm.
So the bulkhead thing is probably for a cable clutch operated car, which aren't very common outside of Japan anyway. "It's all about the heart, the people who focus on parts, turbo's and all that stuff...they're just losers." -Shinji Minowa |

maybe not.........
The SR5 hydraulics are mounted on the left side, because the single cam 4AC's exhaust goes down the right side. This means you need to find a hydraulic line to fit to the bell on the other side now. Do you think that could be as simple as getting a longer clutch line?
