Anyone running 225' tires?
I'm considering going with some 225 rt615(when they are released) for a 15x7rims so I can get some good fat streetable tires under my car(hard to find 205's for a 14' rim..) and I'm really interested if anyone has tried 225 tires for their car.
So if you have, what all did you have to do to the car to make them fit? Any pictures? What size rims? What brand/type tires? Any further comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Why do you need that big a tire for? It's a bit oversized for an ae86 imho.
Unless you're running 8" rims with some fender flares..

I like to be able to stomp on the brakes and not hear the tires lock up. Smile
but seriously though, would their be any negative effects to such a big tire on this car? (keeping in mind I very have little interest in drifting)
And arent 225's good for a 7' deep rim? I have seen a that setup on a few other cars that also seem to do a their share of autocrossing and such...

A few reminders.

The AE86 is an lights weight "sportscar/performancecar".

Stock tires are 185/60-14 on the GT-S

The TRD N" uses 265/58-16 in the rear.

I use on trackdays 215/50-15 rears
&
185/55-15 fronts

On the street We all should not go above 205 in width.

due to the cars light weight & non-supercar-handling abilities.

Kris

EDIT:
I know for a fact that i drive H A R D just on the limit of what both myself & the car can perform. - therefor i use a little bit wider tires than i should

Aslo.. Ueo uses 185/&0-14 on the fronts as on the rears.. & he drift at 150 km/h + -
i thought he´d be using wider tires on the front for maximum grip - but he don´t

I´m sorry sir, your planet has been sceduled for destruction
in favor of an intergalactic highway -Thank you

It's a waste of money to buy such large tires..and they would probably have a negative impact on your economy and slower cornering performance. I still have an original sales folder somewhere from 1984...185/60/14 was considered a fat sports tire for a car like this back then. Even if you dont like drifting I kinda like to have it slide around a tad on slalom/auto-x type courses, it's part of the ae86's dynamic driving characteristics.

I use semislicks on my trackday volvo...it's VERY nice to have those on a track because you reach cornering speeds that you usually wouldnt attempt on public roads. On the other hand they are noisy, not ideally suited to bad weather conditions and wear out fast. The noisy and bad in the rain/snow bit also applies to huge street tires. Like my brother always used to say: people usually run out of balls before they run out of grip.
I myself use 195/50R15 tires on my hachi for daily driving/auto-x. I'm going to switch to 185/55R14 for the winter..
