Aussie ae86 rally car
Thanks for the kind words chaps!
Parrot, Not wrong about it being technical! it was 2nd 3rd 4th the whole time..Never a time for a breather! Eircam, Thanks bud! No plans to rally over qld in the near future. But I will probably move there in the next few years to follow another love interest! (lol) I am planning to do the alpine in victoria in november again. But have seriously run out of money right now No car, no sponsors. No rallying for a good 6 months cold vaper, funnily enough, they are only 40mm ones. Theres no way a standard ae86 stub axle could be machined to fit a 50mm strut. So far they have help up to everything ive hit, with the only thing bending is...the stub axle!! the spring rates are 180lbs (about 3.2kg/mm) Which is perfect for gravel. For Tarmac we usually use a 320lbs spring..which to most people sounds soft. But with the correct dampening its really not Brake with the left hand, steer with the right foot... |

update, Long story short. I got loaned a Subaru Impreza for the next round. I set some quick times as was set for a top 10 finish but cliped a rock and rolled 2.5 times right at the most viewed and camera'd spot of the rally. It made national news. I lost about $16,000 in one swift action.
The headfuck of fixing two bent rallycars and one complete fuckhead of a panel beater taking his time and overchanging me for two shit jobs means i havent rallied for a while. I got a new job, and with that, a desire to rebuild my car... rebuild! car is fully repaired, repainted. so progress... Motor and box is in, after a little freshen up...the gearbox has a new leading 2nd gear put in. Averaging about 1000km out of the synchro hubs now, need to be a little bit nicer to it. trumpets fit except for cyl number 4 hits the rear brake master on the firewall.. Dont want to short them so got some mandrel bends to chop up, adding a piece in to make them point up slightly (and prolly about 20mm longer, the longer the better), now the filter socks will rub on the bonnet, but that doesnt worry me much. Also got some new flash carbon bits. cant wait to start mounting all the fuses and pilot lights in that. Got my diff housing back, it had about 5mm toe out from various knocks.. got it back with 3mm Toe in plus some extended trailing arm mounts. its here with it extra long as the fellow who straightened it and added the legs on didnt know how much ground clearance I had. fuck traction brackets, just have something abit more bling.. with some chrome moly arms, Then I give it go and weld the bottom part I cut off myself and realise i have gotten better on the TIG in recent months. should have saved some money and given the whole job a go myself. (my welds are the unpainted ones) and I got some whitelines... so it looks like an american shitter. off to gt gavin for some sticker love soon... then packed in a container and shipped to qld.. sad it wont turn a tyre in anger in WA again Brake with the left hand, steer with the right foot... |

Hey Bud!
You're just running the stock radiator, right? Is it the stock cap as well? Also, 14" or 15" wheels/tire? I need to get my build updated... it's quite car like now! Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

Not many up close ones! You like my sump eh? First time at building one. hopefully its ok (im half expecting it to leak) but such is the game when making the first one, its never perfect.
I only have pics of it in the car! And I used a koyo twin core (copper) with just a generic 0.9 bar cap nothing special. You MUST run a genuine thermostat tho. They are the only ones that do the job properly. a shot of my pedantic brake and fuel lines. Brake with the left hand, steer with the right foot... |
