Good tip - I wondred why only one oft the contacts was worn. Anyway now everything is fine. Next week I'll hopefully get the insurance through and then I can start driving again.

To do list so far regarding tuning:
- replace all the old bushings with the prothane kit I have
- relocate my wideband further down to the end of the 2>1 header pipe
- finish my spare head with the catcams and pulleys etc...
- tune the megasquirt once the new head is on

Alright time for a small update again...

from the above todo list I managed to do nothing so far, mostly due to temperature being constantly above 40° except for 1hour early in the morning. But my new engine plans have developed a bit further.
Currently I'm taking advantage of our strong currency before they take measures to lower it Banging head so as I type my smallport head is on its way to Loynings to be ported and fitted with OS valves, while my other smallport is on the way to our fellow member oldeskewltoy to be ported with STD valves.
Why two heads many of you might ask, well to be honest just because I couldn't decide which way to go so I'll go both
so to accommodate both ways some more parts need to be gathered (another set of uprated springs, more 1SZ-FE lifters and more catcams, namely the 7105149 as addition to my 7105138 I already have.
Now to simplify the whole process a bit more I reasearched the web and human resources and came up with the following bottomend which needs some funds but as time is on my side this should work out eventualy.
7rib block, 40mm crank, +EM/K1 40/20 rods, +EM/JE custom pistons and a nice new fancy clutch flywheel combo - all added together this should lower the rotating assembly weight by a total of 3-3.5kg compared to a 20V blacktop bottomend with 16V Toda pistons (1.36kg is down to the above parts and the rest is due to the lighter flywheel).

All this is scheduled for the end of year as I only have one small window to get the heavy stuff (anything above 2kg) sent down here - if I miss it I'll have to wait for a long time.
So fingers crossed I'll be able to source all the parts in time and finish the original to do list I can start tuning the engines early next year. Unfortunately without a dyno as they don't exist down here and althoug the above is plenty money I can't afford to buy a dyno too Blush

so for the finish two pics:

How much is the head work by Loynings?
I'm looking to have minor work done to a miata head. Simple stuff, 3 port valve job, back cut on the valves themselves, deshrouding and a bowl blend. Yet it if you mention this in Europe most people either give me a glazy stare or a 1000 euro prospective bill. Fook me, thats 5 times what I pay for the frigging engine. Bit much for max 4 hours work.

the full port work itself I got quoted for 500US$ - for the miata head try cncheads in uk they might give you a better quote than 1000€.
I'm budgeting ~3.5k€ for the new engine and so far I think I should be able to stay within budget, mind you that the original budget was way lower but with currencies going down all over the place I couldn't resist and said now or never.
I pondred long about investing it all into a Beams engine but I doubt I would have been happy with it unless I through some serious money on that too so all good now.

BTW to put the weight loss into perspective, incl. flywheel I can save almost 20% compared to a stock blacktop which hopefully will improve response, free some of the wasted power and more importantly help with reliabilty despite the power increase (only time will tell but I should end up somewhere between 160-200hp once all is done)

CNCheads is 860 euros.. so ~1000 with shipping.

It seems that its about 1000e for an extra 15whp..better if I pass.

Well there is a shop in Switzerland if you speak French. He might be able to do it cheaper - he quoted me 1100 CHF for a full rebuild incl. exchaning all valveguide, skiming etc... so should be able to do what you want for ~500€
http://www.nusa.ch/ but I guess shipping might be a killer.

Quick question:
What are these?
+EM/K1 40/20 rods, +EM/JE

Custom rods and pistons made by K1 and JE respectivly under codevelopment with +EM (http://www.orionengineeredmotorworks.com).
The pistons are on theire site and regular 42/20 rods (for direct use with late spec cranks) too. There's a thread on hachiroku.net by Jeff (aka killer_siller) regarding the new batch of 40/20 ones to suit the lighter 40mm crank but with the 20mm pin for more choice on pistons. What amazed me are the custom JE pistons, which according to them are almost 100g lighter than Toda equivalents

UPDATE: finally got around replacing all the bushing - took 2 half days due to temps never dropping below 35°C in the shade.

Also please wish me loads of luck for a yet secret plan to work out as it would be nice for something to work as planed for once.
