That's a shame! Huh
Sorry, there is no interesting conference for my subject during that period. We'll just have to meet somewhere else in a different time... Wink

thank you....

Yesterday... I was @ Loynings and there porting specialist was measuring the thickness of one of their Atlantic heads it was 4.493", he then said this head has been cut , "70 thou". I asked him what the uncut thickness was and he said 4.563"(115.9)... When I got home I measured an old, uncut, uncleaned head I have here and I got 4.568"(116.02mm) UNCLEANED

I believe I now KNOW a stock uncut CLEAN standard heads thickness (115.9mm) This will allow me to measure any 16V 4AG head and determine if the head had already been cut, and if so, by how much

Me beliving in even numbers I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle so 116 +/- .1

as you know from the casting differences this might be true and within Toyotas tolerances

@Banpei: yeah another time, pitty we didn't meet when I was living in Belgium, would have been closer Wink

Just checked this over... If I may..... Loynings is only open Mon-Thursday... So, if you have time on the 21st, I say we plan for 30-60 min @ Loynings

I'd very much like to do that - just need to find somewhere to drop off my wife for that period (shoppingcenter or artgallery will do) and then we could maybe all go for dinner in the evening Wink
I'll give you a call once I'm in SF then we can plan ahead.

Not much of an update on the project as my crank is still stuck in Switzerland until early June. But I did acquire a drysump pan for the future in case I'll decide to go down that road and probably more intriguing I decided on what to do with my old engine once the new one is finished and running in the car.
I'll give it a mild rebuild and try to recreate Tec-Art's ECO 86 - although without the electronic powersteering as I never had one in the first place.
Their result of 18.9km/l (~44.5mpg or 6.4l/100km) is very intriguing as this is about the same as the latest Yaris but much more fun.
I still need somebody to translate me the whole article but I think the key changes to achieve that figure are the modern injectors and the ISCV (idle speed control valve) which are fully controlled by a reprogrammed standalone (in their case a PowerFC).

PS: if anyone reads fluent Japanese incl. the tech lingo - let me know and I'll send you a link to the high quality scan.

But doesn't this hurt your poor hachi then? Dumb question
While you are still there for another six weeks, why not enjoy free sandblasting of some of your parts? Tongue

pressure isn't really sufficient for sandblasting and the roads not good enough to do higher speeds to help with that.
as long as you clean the airfilter every other week it's just a mess. The high intensity sunshine does more damage to the paintjob than the sand as long as you don't rub it in.

and now to the latest update (phone pic and dark outside, excuse the blurriness):

and we're running on generator power now, most probably until tomorrow afternoon - insomnia here I come.

PS: for those whit good eyes, that is my AC compressor on the table, but I missing everything else so it's not much use Sad

short update:

I finally made it to my new destination TEL AVIV in Israel. The car is in a container and still a few months out before it's back with me and road worthy.
Meanwhile I bought a vehicle to get around town - it lacks the proper amount of wheels but I like it, a little TLC still needed but nothing Major - second hand bargain for the win Smile
