Cusco Powerball Headers on a NA 4AGE 16V?
Hi, about to buy some cusco powerball headers i found but i cant find any orignal documentation for them. They are a 16v 4AG extractor but were they intended for the GZE only or NA? Upon googling them, i can only find people using them on a GZE and it makes me think they might be tuned for a SC setup. Any ideas? has anyone used them on a NA engine? thanks

Cusco Powerball Headers on a NA 4AGE 16V?
ok so i shelled out the money for the extractors and got them on and i'm pretty sure the car is slower than with the standard manifold!!!
I originally had the standard one with an A'pexi 2 1/4" resonator and a 2" stainless system with a Kakimoto muffler.
The new extractors are stainless 4-1 with about 42mm primary piping down to a 2 1/4" flange. There is a small leak in the collector where it has been rewelded poorly previously but this is only like a pinhole gap where i can feel gas coming out. Has anyone got any ideas why it feels alot slower?
It doesn't pull at all through the rev range, even at above 6000rpm.
Has anyone got any explanation or experience with this? Even a more certain way of telling if it's going better or worse besides getting it dyno'd before and after.

Very simple. Feeling of speed comes from torque. Torque comes from 4-2-1 headers. High rev hp comes from 4-1.

If your engine is standard it will feel slower. If you have a midly tuned one its better in the high revs. If you have a high rpm one with high hp then its noticable between 4-2-1 and 4-1

True. So on a mildly tuned engine, it should accelerate faster at high revs?
Cheers robokill.

As has already been mentioned, 4/2/1 headers improve the midrange, 4/1 headers improve the top end. PROPER sizing is VASTLY important, too large and you will lose power!

If I may ask...... can you get some of the dimensions? Diameter of primary tubing. Diameter of secondary tubing (below the Powerball). Also the length of the primaries from the flange to the Powerball (measure the outside radius for accuracy)

Yeah that's right, have the primaries and secondary pipe size in the previous post. Would recommend these, moves the powerband higher in the rev range and feels great, suits the style of driving that it is used for, works especially well with the 4.8:1 diff ratio. Wink

I had a Cusco Powerball on my FWD Silvertop 20v. I will not recomend it too anyone, its waste of money. You will get a bit less torque and a bit more hp in high rpm. There are much other ways to gets more power for less money.
Also a stainless steel manifold also make alot of heat in the engine bay, so you have too wrap it in powerwrap. My radiatorhose gets sticky because of the intense heat.

Project AE86 now begun.

Sorry to bring this really old thread back, but I'd like to ask you gurus if the header in the photos below is really a CUSCO header.

It definitely seems different. The routing of each individual exhaust pipe is different than the average Powerball. Not really sure what I'm looking at to be honest, but it's definitely not a Powerball!

Remove those tattered remains of exhaust wrap and you should find a jasma badge if it's a real Cusco.
Perhaps it will even have a model nr on it.
My guess is that its original up to the collector, and a cut&shut from there on. It's missing the 'ball' like
collector, but I doubt someone would go through the trouble of faking the cusco logo on the flange.
