D1GB?
Hey guys,

The new Banzai just dropped on the doormat last week but I hardly had time to read it. May be the last one I'll get because I haven't desided whether I want to continue with it. Every issue has one, sometimes two articels that really interest me but for the rest, I look at some pretty pictures and it ends up on the stack of almost unread issues. I've been wondering whether it is worth it, would be nice if there was a mag out there that solely targets drifting and track driving in europa.. awellSmile

anyways, this issue did have an articel that interest me greatly, a small rapport of the D1GB awareness day (not sure what its called but thats how it seemed to be describedSmile) with loads of picturesSmileSmile
The whole event also seems to have gone unnoticed on our little forum which is a real shame as two hachirokus where present and kicking some but!Smile

I wish I could have gone there to watch, but English events so far have alluded meSad... Did anyone from our forum go there? Might be nice to get some more info on this up on our boardSmile

Dont know which event your talking about, but in October there was the D1GP exhibition match. Which was just like a normal D1 round but not for points, and a few European drivers took part.

Next year the Premiere UK drift event is going to be the D1GB, run by the D1 corp. Should be fantastic.

Come to Ireland if anything.! Our drivers made the UK season this year.

And guess who is the Uk champion? Of course its an Irish man,Damien Mulvey from cork and he is also the Irish champion too !

The Irish put the best show on in Silverstone at the Uk D1Gp match.

Big time drifting will be comming to europe in 2006.Keep an eye out Wave

Hopefully we'll have some great venues and events in the UK next year if D1 Corp is involved. I just hope they sort all the regulations out soon so people know what they can/can't do when building up cars.

Hope there are lots and lots of practice days too.

All this gives me a reason to get my car running again.

Regards Ian.

Ian, are you going to compete in the D1 next year, would be great seeing more corollas competing next yere. Depending how long till my corollas up and running, and how much practice I can get in, I'd love to compete in the D1GB, if theres a clubman catagory.

I dunno yet.

I'm not sure I've got the balls - but I am more used to drifting near solid objects (like walls and stuff) now.

I would maybe like a go at a clubman event - but I think once everything is organised it will be a lot easier to practice more frequently. I have a lot of praise for Terry and Drift UK - if it wasn't for the time and effort they have given there would be very few places to practice. I am even more pleased that they are still involved in D1GB.

I want to understand how they are going to categorize things. I know there is D1GP professional and D1GP street legal series in Japan. As my car has no interior or stereo and some plexi glass windows it would not be allowed to compete in street legal.

We'll see what happens - I have to have a running car first LOL.

Regards Ian.

The exhibition match was quite good, I was hideing in a hut at the track side on the entry to the first corner, everytime the cars came down the straight i ran out to see them litterally 1 meter away, the security kept trying to evict me but i hung in there!

There were two 86 from ireland and one from japan,
Darren Macnamara (metalic blue sr20det ae86) battled fearlessley into the semi finals knocking out some huge D1 names along the way! the crowd was pretty wild - the japanese judges were truely impressed with his drift style!

Eric osulivan (ae86 20v) whoes drift was truely dynamic for his power disadvantage equally as good as Toshiki Yoshioka [DRoo-p AE86] and clearly proving he had what it takes to put up an AE86 against the japanese!

Im suprised nobody has mentioned this yet as the Darren really was the hero of the day in his AE86 the crowd litterally was wild for him!

Try searching on driftworks for the photos there are some great ones!
(look for me in a red jacket on the entry to the first corner!)
