Different seats for AE86 - Help needed
I'm thinking to install different seats into AE86. Maybe aftermarket buckets or some nice "other cars" seats.
AE86 floor is anything but flat, so i see big problem with fixing and positioning. Solution with rails doesn't sound OK, because i see that most people that put in rails end up with their heads in roof . Since i'm 192cm and like to sit close to wheel with seat in up position i belive that i will have the same problem. I tried to look for some DIY and pictures, but coudn't find any. Is the floor modification only way or there are some other ideas ? Thanks, regards |

Done some research on my own.
I misjudged the floor, if you tilt the seat/rail back and down, there is no real height issue. So there is no need for "floor managmenet" nor special rails. In both cases, if your new seats have or don't have their own rails you can use genuine rails and easily save 100+ $. My replacement seats do have their ones so i just need brackets from original seats. Marked orange These are rails of new seats, I was fascinated that holes in toyota rail which connect rail with brackets are exactly the sae as 4 holes in recaro rail on new seats. Marked green in both pictures. Don't really know if this is some kind of standard, but surely liked it! So, only thing i need is to dismantle brackets and screw them in new rail. Brackets are little rusty so i will sandblast mine and paint them, just to make everything look as good as possible when i can do it myself. After that, these babies will be in Corolla real soon . Obviusly, toyota rails and brackets, at least in my case are great. But, even if you plan for some bucketseats, with little welding you can fit the seat on genuine AE86 rail which are really ok, very low and have both rails locking mechanism. Can save ~100$ bucks easily. Regards |

Different seats for AE86 - Help needed
MK1 MR2 seats bolt in almost exactly, just need to drill 1 hole, the red/black look very good in a red or black 86, they sit nice & low. They are usually very cheap

I have MR2 mrk 1 seats. You going to need to do just alittle fabrication to them. Make sure you securely bolt them as well. You are dealing with a
safety feature. Don't want to be unsecured when you get crashed or else. As in Seat rail, if you going towards aftermarket. They have a little lower size. But I can't really help you there. The MR2 seats are really comfortable and yet tight. But If your straight out racing on the track with loads of turns. I recommend a bucket seat. If you going to use them. I recommend getting them fabricated with new fabric and foam. Makes a difference in feel and importantly smell. lol The GT-S trim of the AE86 is still good seat. just refab them. Here is a pic of mine. not the greatest. But a start. lol East Coast Toyota http://ectoyotas.com/forum/index.ph Club4AG http://www.club4ag.com/ |
