Doc's KE20: - really coming together now
Today i swapped the engine in!
So from today, my car is officially a TE21 instead of a KE20! Big Grin

Was bloody hard work on my own, but i'm glad i managed it! Big Grin

at first i bolted the flywheel, clutch and gearbox to the engine, Corolla looks at it from a small distance Big Grin :

Then it was time to swap in the engine. Stubborn as i was, i left the front ARB in place, even though someone told me it wasn't gonna fit. I read on the internet that the '74 models got a different ARB, so i left it in place. WRONG! Big Grin

2 hours and a removed ARB later:

It's in! Big Grin

Was well chuffed with that! Big Grin This moment i've been looking out for for soooo long. Finally the car is REALLY coming together!

Ran into some small problems, i took the gearlever out in 5th gear position. And when the engine was in the car i placed the lever back in the wrong position and thus activating 2 gears at the same time! Not good for your forward motion! Big Grin Also need to adjust the gearlever a bit, it came out of a Celica TA22, which has the gearlever pretty for up front, underneath the dash. The KE20 is, obviously, a little shorter then a Celica! The gearlever comes out exactly in the same spot as in the original gearbox, but is tilted to far back. So with this setup i can't do my 100mph 4th gear e-brake entry drifts no more! Tongue Time for a little heat and some unbend-action! ;D

After that i decided to bolt all my front garnish in. It's almost looking like a car again!! :o

Well chuffed with that, so i made my own end-of-day shot! (and YES, i seem to have the ability to make every part of my body dirty whilest working on cars! Big Grin)

Nice going Thomas! Damn impressed at you dropping the engine in solo.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

Looks brilliant! Must be a huge lift psychologically. Can't get much bigger progress than bolting the running gear in.

Which model whiteline sway bar did you use? I heard somewhere that a TA22 bar swaps in but have no confirmation of this.

i used the KE20 specific bar, they don't list it anymore now, sadly.

and yes, i was so happy saturday! Big Grin

Tonight me and D.Wars are going to glue the rooflining back in it's place. So after that it's windows, cage, seats and then the interior is 90% done! Big Grin
