@David: the sw20 front shocks (just like the ae92 shocks) are short-stroke shocks. That means that the distance travelled by the shock is shorter. The reason of this is that if you change the springs to stiffer and shorter springs the standard shocks won't be working optimal anymore because they are stuck at somewhere along the way of their travel all the time.
@Eric: They are indeed too short, so you need both cut the strut and add a spacer. I know they are too short, that is not the problem. the problem is they dont fit the KE70 housing
![]() So i need to find 86 front housing now ![]() it is like a needle in a haystack so it seems.. |

Ah right... I googled upon that because I remembered DK complaining about that as well on his KE70... Here is the answer:
http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php...t&p=167055 It looks like your KE70 then probably fitted with early type struts. ![]() 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: ![]() |

that's correct.
it has the same type of struts as my ke35 had. |

thinking about that... indeed, because the later KE70s also had the same fitment in the topmounts as the AE86s had.

I'm not talking about suspension travel or ride height, I'm talking about stiffness and damper characteristics. the sw20 front shock is setup to be used on a rear heavy car that weight alot more than a ke70/AE86, for optimal performance you cannot use this damper, I know alot of you do, but you could do much better if you did a little research, because you would find a damper that is much more suited to the ke70/ae86 without going custom or paying alot of money. same goes for the rear, I know the camaro damper is used but why do you want to put on a shock that has damping characteristics for a car that weight 2 or 3 times more than a KE70/AE86??? sure, if you don't care how your car will handle, and will just drive to the grocery and do burnouts it wouldn't matter... and if your shock has adjustments and you think you can adjust the damping force to suit your car you obviously don't know alot of dampers... if you think I'm stupid that are saying this, I can tell you that I'm only trying to help you build your car better another thing I can point on is the tension rod you got, you probably noticed the "U" bracket that goes between the uniball and factory mount, I do not recommend using this because of the shorter rod length, the suspension geometry will be worse than stock if you have enough travel.. if the T3 pieces has enough adjustments for it I recommend removing the "internals" of the factory chassis mount mount, and drill a hole through just like the TRD N2/CUSCO tension rods at stock position or even 2cm further to the front if possible and I saw you got a pre'82 ke70, that's why you have less caster. edit: you can use the TE71 struts but they have different bolt pattern than AE86 struts for the caliper bracket |

no one is calling you stupid, we are just ignorant...
i do indeed have a pre '82 KE70. so you say my TE71 struts should fit? no matter what year they are? is this because they came with a bigger and heavier engine from the factory? |

@david:
I dunno what weight your average 1982 camaro has, but it does not exceed 1 1/2 times the AE86. I think you're exaggerating a bit here... ![]() You're right that the Camaro shocks are much stiffer than the Corolla shocks and yes they will give you a bumpy ride compared to the OEM shocks. Same goes for the SW20 shocks: the SW20 has a weight distribution of 42:58 while the hachi has 53:47. But you're surpassing the actual purpose of this mod: it is an adjustable suspension (adjustable without taking anything loose!) for the price of a set konis. If you would like such a suspension for the AE86 from any other brand you pay at least twice the price. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: ![]() |

Koni's suck...
When you're not after the fastest laptimes. the sw20/camaro setup will do just fine. Rokuichi Power !! _________________________________________ Toyota Starlet KP61 2.0 vtec |
