Exhaust gets REALLY warm, mild 4AGE build running MS
What might cause the exhaust to get really warm (glowing!) in just a few minutes? Judging from the plugs its running a bit rich. Timing seems to be stabil no matter how high the revs. We tried locking timing to 40 degrees btdc.

Then we suspected that the exhaust cam timing was way off but its fully open at a 105 degrees because of a thinner head gasket and no adjustable cam gears. Its running 262/258 degrees catcam with 9 mm lift btw.

What the h*** is going on Smile

My car with the issue (living in china so Jan is trying to get it ready for Nurburgring Arpil 1st)

---------------------------------

... and setting the ignition at fixed 40degrees before top caused no pinging even at low revs.

The trigger angle has been set to 50degrees... In the MS Manual they warn about this as the MS should not have time enough to calculate and deliver the spark timing

I have heard that some rubber on the belt wheel can be displaced hence moving the wheel markings out of sync with the crack...?

I'm pretty sure I run mine with "triggerangle=10" and "spark output inverted=no"

What is your physical setup pickup and ignition wise? Have you checked with a ignition lamp what the ignition actually is?

Project AE86 now begun.

As I wrote timing seems fine and we did check using an ignition lamp.

Jimmy: MSeren er ikke købt ved Rene, så det er ikke sikkert at det vil hjælpe.

Hello Im Martin and are also working on the car while Niels is in China.
The Megatune program is version 2,25 p3
we have checked the timing with ignition lamp. and the real timing is identical with the map, and we have tried (as wrote before) to lock the ignition at 40 degrees and let engine run about 2500-3000 rpm same time checking with ignition lamp. but in few minutes the exhaust manifold is glowing. I have check the valve clearence and check valves for leak with air in spark plug holes and it seems okay. the cam timing is also okay.
I have checked that the timming mark on the belt wheel is at right position when piston is in top.
this is wird.
