Well all sorts of wheel geometry has to do with it, camber as well. Then add tyre choice including width. Car weight plays a large role too.

Out of curiosity, what belt are you running? I've also removed the a/c and would need a shorter belt, but have no idea where to start.

The belt I'm using is a ''Contitech'' multirib 5 PK 906
Bought it from Euro car parts Aylesbury.
I'm pretty sure that 5 PK refers to the belt type and 906 is the length in mm
It's fairly tight to get over the pulleys but once on there is just the right amount of adjustment.

i've never felt the need for power steering on an AE86 its such a light car. unless your running mad wide wheels Tongue .

my AE86 weighs about 970kg and has 6.5" width wheels on the front and its a breeze

I wouldn't get rid of PAS. Having driven original non PAS 86's - the former's definitely easier to drift with, etc. especially when running larger rims, wider tyres, etc. Also a PAS rack doesn't usually fare too well without fluid running through it as it should. PAS on an AE86 doesn't weigh much - so the benefits of losing it are outweighted by those of keeping it IMHO.

Even for an N2 race spec. Trueno we're building with Techno Pro Spirit now for a customer in Europe, PAS has been retained (Front rims are 9 inches wide Big Grin).

Thanks for the info on part numbers guys, really helpful.

I also agree with Miguel, I've driven both non-power steering on my old AE86 and I've driven it with and without on my current one and PAS wins hands down for response. A lot of people expect the power steering to be really lightweight with little feedback but really it just makes it easier to get from lock to lock quicker with very little loss in feedback from the wheels.
