Fuel sender unit
Hi All,

I have a broken fuel sender unit and am looking at replacing it with a generic brand. Can anyone tell me what the resistance of the full and empty levels should from the sender?

Thanks,
Vernon.

You can slide a multimeter across the coil in the sender unit to determine the resistance, unless of course you've broken the coil, in which case, WTF?!!

Have a look on http://www.autoshop101.com One of the tech docs may have that data

The unit is completely stuffed, otherwise I would have done as you suggested. I tried cleaning and inspecting the wires, as you say the coil must be broken. Thanks for the link, I will check it out and see if it can tell me what it need.

BTW: It is an AE101 jap import (4age silvertop), if anyone else has the data handy.

Cheers,
Vernon.

The fuel sender unit can be cleaned if the contacts are dirty with lots of build up.

Have you physically inspected the coil? I'm not saying it's impossible, but I find it very hard to believe that the coil has separated! You should be able to open the unit up so that the coil and contacts are exposed.

When I bought my sprinter I had to bend the slider on the top of the float arm so that it made solid contact with the coil, and the fuel gauge has now been working for 6years.

Had it in bits, looks like someone else has had their hands in it and not been careful. Or taken to it with the wrong tools. Off to the wreckers this weekend for a replacement I would say. Smile
