alt. question. is going stock to 130 amp safe?

my alt. sucks, if the radio is on and i step on the brakes the radio goes out.

if i were to buy the 130 amp alt. would that fix the problem? would it cause any damage if i did?

the standard alt should be able to run the car and a modest stereo,i would look at the wiring and condition of the battery,and get your alt load tested

ok, but if it turns out that i should need more amps would it do damage to go with 130?

I have a 80 amp, don't know from what model of toyota, the previous owner installed it to have some extra rally lights, don't notice the difference

no it wont do damage,it only produces as much as is drawn by stuff

Power wires to the back of the alternator can fray and break off from vibration over the years. Check those carefully, sounds as if there's a problem with electrical power feed...
