Those are zenki-only.. You remove those when using the kouki eyebrows. Think I still have mine somewhere but not willing to part with anything yet.

car is '84 Zenki, but do have the kouki grill, and the eybrowes on the headlights as well. do I have a Kouki headlight assambly or do both grills fit?

I might be wrong about these hood-mounted things being zenki only. Was an assumption I cant really prove looking at the catalog pictures.
About the headlights, there is a difference between zenki and kouki, you cant just interchange grilles and you cant screw the eyebrows onto zenki
lights either, the bosses are not cast into them so you'd need to glue those on.
You need inner headlight mounts to match the version of grille you are going for (if you want to do it the correct way that is).

It's definitely an interesting topic... When I look at the Swiss zenki GT, I definitely don't see those brows and the top of the headlights is very visible:

And it also seems to be missing for the German zenki AE86:

And I also found them missing on the French and UK models (no uploads unfortunately)

While the Austrian zenki has a nice blacked out line above the headlights:

I looked at all my scans of the European models and I found blacked out ones as well in the Dutch and Finnish brochures. But zooming in didn't reveal the brows on the scans, in contrary: the side markers clearly have a plastic surround, while above the headlights no such thing was to be seen. Perhaps it's 1980s photoshopping.

The Swiss models never had that brow on the hood (neither zenki or kouki - I looked through all my pictures I had from meetings and my friends garage. The include pretty much every year of AE86 available in Switzerland). The kouki with the glass grill has the brow on the headlight as stated.

I'm using the hood from my old kouki model and it has those hoodtrims.
