HKS 264 8.35mm lift cam shaft....help needed!
Hi all.....
I'm new to this forum, not entire new though, had been following this forum for quite a long time, but i've just registered as member recently, and this is my first post here. I'm from Malaysia, I own an AE86 with a small port 16v 4A-GE engine completely stock, except for the exhaust manifold, it's a 4-1 manifold, the engine is running smooth n doesn't got much problem on the engine itself. here comes my question, I've bought myself 2 HKS 264 8.35mm lift (According to http://www.club4ag.com) cam shaft, n thinking to do a little upgrade to my engine, I wonder if i install the above mentioned camshafts, can the original valve springs endure the now higher lift cam? It's understood that many would recommend me to replace the original valve spring with the after market one, due to financial constraint, after market valve spring couldn't come together with the camshaft. So, i'm seeking answers/experience from who has done this b4, whether it works or not, if it works, does it last long enough? Sorry for the english, i hope i've stated my question clear enough for u guys to understand. Thanks. |

I don't advise you to use it without aftermarket springs, but if you put in the cams, your engine will work, but will not have the full power. Maybe your springs will wear faster, and finally broke..

A guy in Australia has run 263 degree 8.35mm cams for 5+ years on standard springs without an issue.

I'm not saying you can... or can't, BUT what people don't remember is cam lift does NOT equal valve lift!
You MUST factor in the valve clearence into the equation. For the most part, 4AG stock springs bind @ or about 8.0 mm of VALVE lift. To KNOW for sure you should have your springs checked to see where YOUR springs bind at. Valve springs are NOT extraordinarily expensive. TRD and Toda springs run about 7 to 9 euros each (about $10-$11 each US) Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |

You can use those camshafts with stock valve springs. I have ran my engine like that for a long time.
Best regards |
