Has anyone had any experience transplanting roof skins?
Specifically on a 3 door?

I want to swap a sunroof skin for a non-sunroof skin. Does anyone have any step by step guides or any info on how difficult it or what to watch out for?

Thanks in advance Thumbs up!

There are some places that make fibreglass skins, might be worth hunting them down and asking...

I'm intrigued by how much weight is lost with a fibreglass one, but I already have a donor to do the transplant from.

I would think maybe 2-3kg. Its pretty thin metal on the roof.

I've done that, following info Ivan posted some time ago.
You need to brake punctual welds, remove sunroof skin and put back non-sunroof one,

Not hard, takes some time.

Not sure how much weight does it saves, 10kg for sure, but it gained me some 2-3 cm of head clearance which was my target.

Im assuming your 10kg of saving would be from sunroof to non-sunroof? Just going from metal non-sunroof to fibreglass wouldnt be anywhere near 10kg I wouldnt think.

PS Jezza, weigh your roof when you take it off, the fibreglass ones weigh 3kg from their site.

Thanks for that guys. I understand that it's mostly spot welds around the seam of the skin and some brazing on the B-pillars? Is there much that could go wrong when cutting the skin away?

Thanks for the link 4000GT. I've been looking for some some standard Trueno wings too, it seems like an ideal site to get them from Hurray!

Yeah, it will be a genuine sunroof skin, but I don't believe it will have the roof lining etc. I will get pictures for you once it's all in-hand, Vaptor. Thumbs up!
