Hi from the Netherlands
I am just a random guy with intrest in the AE86.
The story so far: I became intrested in rwd drive japanese cars. Uptill now I have only owned fwd, non japanese, cars. The only japanese thing I have is a Honda CD50 4stroke moped. I was looking for the mr2 sw20. But it came to my attention that they all have very high mileage, and are not that fast. They sure look faster then they really are (not including the Turbo). The Turbo is way out of reach for this guy. So I found out Toyota had another rwd car, and cheap aswell! The AE86. I never drove one... so I can't really tell if I will really go for it (need to find me a dealer wich has one, so I can testdrive it). That way I will even have some money left for some tuning. It sure is faster than my peugeot on paper. But I wonder... it must rev like crazy @ 120kph. My peug does 3000rpm's. Anyway, just need to find one at dealer, so I can testdrive it and see for myself. Cheers! Justice to All |

Hi from the Netherlands
Hey JTA,
Well if you are anywhere near lisse let me know and we'll go for a spin. My car isn't stock anymore and not the most perfect car (yet) but it should give you a good idea. Do realize though that these cars don't cost to much (yet) but they are very hard to find, there aren't that many of em. Also they are 20 years old and like every 20 year old car need some TLC and rust removal ![]() Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi ![]() |

Hi from the Netherlands
Sorry to say, but AE86 and cheap can't go together these days.
But IMO it's more that AE86 is 20 years old car. You can get some very good deals if you are into tunning (120€ complet set of bushings, 120€ complete set of gaskets for engine...). Anyway, glad you are intrested in hachiroku! Drifting - best fun you can have in your car with your pants on! |

Hi from the Netherlands
Okay... but the base price is lower than the SW20's. I’ve seen cars from a dealership “Jo Hellebrand” for 3000-4500. I don’t know if the guy sells crap or sells good stuff. I find the 4500 one looking mighty fine on those pictures. I like the color. Here are some pics.
![]() ![]() ![]() Plus I like to have something that is unique. Fuel efficient, but fast as hell (relatively speaking) if need be. mux213: I live in Driebergen. So that is 85 clicks away. Could be feasible if there is time in the future. (for me: every weekend... unless I have stuff to do) I never EVER saw an 86 around Utrecht, where I work on Lagerwijde. So I would be pretty unique there. And I would just love to see the faces of my co-workers when I arrive in an 86. They will say: Crap car. Untill they see what it is capable of. 0-60 time is faster than any of the cars my co-workers have. Plus rwd... adds to the fun. Justice to All |

Hi from the Netherlands
Uhm..before I say this I want everyone to know that I am not dissing the AE86 (I own a car that can be IMPROVED upon by using AE86 parts, as long as you have fun.).
I don't know this for sure, but you sound like a pretty young guy. Like me you are probably a champion benchracer that knows the 0-60 specs of pretty much every car out there. Well, sometimes the numbers don't say everything.. The stock AE86 is a slow car PERIOD. I owned a bone stock civic that outaccelerated it, outcornered it and braked better as well. The hachi is a classic and that shows in some area's. That doesn't mean it can't be improved on offcourse...everyone needs a hobby. This hobby though tends to get expensive when you can't do everything on your own. With these old cars its often not a question of car mechanics, but more brute stength and creative problem solving. That means that a few friends and a few beers are helpfull as well. Don't underestimate the effort that goes into this. Luckily we have a nice little community here where people help other people out, but that kind off depends on your own attitude as well. 4500E buys a lot of cars, throw some more info on yourself into the group and let the other members tell you their experiences. Don't take my word for it, but AE86's are pretty difficult daily drivers. Make one hell of a hobby though ![]() A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

His prices are way too high for what they are worth and his hachis look better on the photos than in real life. Its both economic and relieable, but if something does break down, it might cost a bit more to fix it than on an ordenary car...
