Dont let these guys discourage you to much mate Every car has its bright sides and its downsides. So has the hachi, you just need to find out first if this car is the right one for you and the only way to do so is to drive one

Hi and welcome to the forum. As long as you are having fun, don't get discouraged. Personally I like the ae86 because nobody on the road expects such a resistance from an old car... i love dissapointing flashy cars. This car is also appropriate for learning - driving techs, mechanics, etc. I figured out that its almost impossible to have a daily driver and a race car behind the same steering wheel - you always have to make a compromise. So, except getting new OZ rims (''17) for my Ford Focus, i got an "experimental car" :wink: This made my Focus a little jealous but on the other side - i don't push it that much!

@Mux, I'm not trying to discourage the guy. But you must admit that even your car, which was in better shape than most to begin with, has seen its fare share of garage time. With a little help it can be done in a weekend or less, but not everyone has these connections.
Its an old car, things are going to break, thats part of the fun. But as a daily driver that can be annoying. Sourcing parts etc is also more time and money consuming (the ordinary ones, not the tuning bits).

Just trying to be the voice of reason here guys. Hope you don't hate me for it. Remember I bought a daily driver that goes against all principles discribed above.....its a disease I gues..its in the blood.

True it is part of what someone buying a hachi (or any 20 year old car) should realize. Buying a car like this means that you're gonne need to get your hands greasy, or need to have some really really good friends

So its good that some one sais it, just must make sure not all the news is bad

Its allways nice to have a voice of reason, but most of the time I think of you as being very negative... Thats how I see it - hope you dont mind me saying so There'll allways be pros and cons, but remember the cons too...

The 86 might annoy some as a daily driver because of the noise and not too great comfort, but its not that much worse than other gtis from that time.

Everyone is entitled to their own oppinion, be it positive or negative. Just aslong as people keep an open mind and realize not everyone finds the same aspects important. This car is not for everyone and that makes me very happy because it makes us special (or really really mentally crazy, I'll leave that up to other to diside)

I am turning 24 this year. So I am still young yes. And I do know 0-60 times of most cars.

4500 euros would buy me faster cars. But they would be fwd. And sport badges I really dislike (gti / gsi). I have fallen for the looks of the AE86. The only thing remains is: Would I also like the way it preforms.

As for the technical part. I have a nephew who is a car mechanic. I just know the basic things, so overhauling an engine myself would be a no-no.
But with his help, I will be able to maintain it pretty good.

You are right mux, I ment pros And thats exactly my point, its not for everyone. That doesn't mean that it can't be used as a daily driver... I did for the last four years without any major problems.

But there is one thing I hate about the AE86... why did they NOT sell the hatch in the Netherlands. That car looks sleeker. Plus the rear looks way better.

I think I need to take a trip to portugal and steal me one... :wink:
