Hot oil filter - a problem?
Hi
Using an aftermarket exhaust my oil filter gets very hot. Has anyone heard of reliability issues because of this? I am wondering how it affects my oil temperature. A relocation kit would be "easy" but also add another component that can fail. |

Hot oil filter - a problem?
I had the same problem with my exhaust header. I was actually blistering the paint on the oil filter. I made a cylindrical shaped heat shield, and attached it to the filter with a hose clamp. I have about a 4mm air gap between the filter and the heat shield which was enough to resolve problem. Dave W

common problem with aftermarket headers as they ditch the original heatshield. Make a new one like Dave or have the header heatwrapped.
In general if you got a good oil cooling system it will be fine while driving. I would address it though especially for the moment when you stop. the header will still be hot but no more oilflow this might heat the oil inside the filter to a level where it might start building up and get caked and in turn block flow. Hot oil filter - a problem?
My header is already wrapped but fabricating some sort of shield is a good idea - thanks!

have you think to use a spacer to the header?
