How do you drift ?
big respect to all drifters here!!!
hope to get some nice vids at mobikrog if we get the action started this winter. maybee i can practice some synchrone drifting with zax is there anyone with some web-space? i could contribute a short video of my starlet. ... drifting with it is just about full throttle and steering ... can not explain the technique ... it is, as mentioned before, all about practice and knowing the behavior of your car. |

How do you drift ?
since it was raining yesterday, I went to a new industrial terrain near my home.It consists of 4 90 degree corners so everytime you got the same corner. There aren`t even any companies on that terrain.Off the road there are only long stretches of grass.Pretty safe.So i went trying some things out with the mr2.
The rear is quite easy to brake with the handbrake but i had the feeling you lose very much speed.Only the handbrake isn`t enough, you have to brake with your right foot a bit and then pull the handbrake, works much better(weight distribution maybe). This technique feels very "inaccurate" if you know what i mean. The second thing i did was, i drove towards a corner in 3rd gear with quite some speed (60 or something).while you brake for the corner you have to shift back to 2nd gear and release the clutch immediatly, just when you steer into the corner. The result is that it upsets the rear, but the car gripped short after that.So i found out that the moment when the rear is upset you have to give gas and you can keep your rear wheels slipping.Too bad the mr2 hasn`t got a LSD!.But you feel your wheels lock for a sec when you release the clutch. So i tried the same technique with heel and toe.Man this get`s very difficult because you have to do so many things at once, also your timing is very important. This needs practice. What i did with my brothers car was simple, steering in so far until you felt understeer en then go full throttle.Very easy, the rear was slipping but it isn`t really hard. Well hope to have my 86 on the road soon for more testing and practice |

How do you drift ?
This weekend i was on mobikrog. I was not going with my car, but i did lay my hands on some nice drift machine.
One of best slovenian drifters let me drive/drift his M3 E36. Here are the 2 pictures. Car is bit too soft for me, but i did manage to drift all corners. Also i connected the last 2, most difficult corners on mobikrog from the very first time. Drifting m3 is pice of cake with all that power and torque, servo steering... Like Bunta says: "AE86 - the car that trains the driver." Drifting - best fun you can have in your car with your pants on! |
