Problem: Soft clutch pedal - no clutch activation
Hi,
Today when starting the car in the morning (temperature about -5°C), I've noticed the problem: The clutch pedal was very soft to press and the clutch didn't activate - so I couldn't change the gears. After a while the problem dissapered. Now the clutch workd ok, but I've noticed a small leakage at the cylinder at the clutch pedal in the cabin. Does this indicate a dynig (cluch master?) cylinder? Problem: Soft clutch pedal - no clutch activation
Did you fix both master and slave cylinder?
After a little bit of thinking I had a theory: Master cylinder's o-rings (mounted to a piston) are made of rubber. When the rubber is worn or old (and not so soft any more), the rubbers softness is bad at low temperatures. So the rubber diameter decreases (at low temperatures) and the compression is lower. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the oil leaks across the rubber seals. The oil is pushed in the wrong compartment, so I see the leakage. When the rubber seals became warmer, they expand and the oil is pushed without leakage. I definitly have to renew the clutch master cylinder. I hope the Nipparts reparation kit fits ok (the part number J2712001 5/8 coresponds to Toyota 04311-12020) Regards Andrej |

Problem: Soft clutch pedal - no clutch activation
Does anyone know of any part number of a rebuilt/new clutch master cylinder??
I have 2 with pits in them, and a rebuild kit will not fix it for long. I could send it to australia, and get a stainless steel insert profesionally placed in it, but that would cost $$ for shipping etc. I did buy one, from australia, but only noticed after I tried to replace it, that lhd and rhd are different. Always remember: Rev it till it blows, then back off a bit... Zenkis - Orange, Red/Black, Silver/Black, Maroon/Blue Koukis - Red, Silver/Gray, |

Problem: Soft clutch pedal - no clutch activation
Hi .
Here i the fix for your problem, I just did this today, changed the master cylinder,it took 2 hours to do, including modification of the clutchmaster cylinder that i got. I purchased a new mastercylinder for a AE82,AE80...all the frontwheel drive corolla´s from 83-87. The one i got was a Nipparts, but others will of course also work. There is just a small thing that needs to be done,as there are only one bolt onthe AE86 master, and on all the others, there are two bolts. So what has to be done is, to modifie the AE82 cylinder to make it like the AE86: unscrew the lower bolt, take a 9mm drill and drill that lower hole to 9mm,then it´s exactly the same as. This cost around 40 euro for a brand new master instead of 160euro for a Toyota OE part!. Tip of the day, Regards Skassa Any fool can go fast in a straight line.
