Is it worth restoring an unused AE86
The only thing I could see causing a problem from storage isn't really rust but perishing of rubber components, bushes, belts, pipes, etc. Typically they become hard and brittle and may cause problems. If its been stored in a garage it shouldn't really have rusted, even so its likely to be pretty mint.

Similarly the oil / brake fluid should probably be changed because its not really meant to be used for that long and may break down or something.

Once you've checked those things it should run fine.

And is it really 3K from new? That blows my mind Yummie!

I actually bought one that had been in a garage for 9 years or so. As said above rust was not a problem at all but replacement of rubber components, bushes, belts, pipes, fuel and oil filters, fluids etc will be necessary.

Is it worth restoring an unused AE86
as many have already hinted @... the mileage is the key...

I spent about 5 years in the restoration(Mustangs, and other older Fords) supply business...

Personally... I would not be considering this as a regular daily... get the Fiat/Peugeot to use as a daily... this car with only 3000km makes it VERY low mileage... very low mileage means bigger value

If you have some photos... post'em

Since you aren't a car person... it might be of considerably more value to you sold............

Btw... what continent are you on???

Is it worth restoring an unused AE86
gfxl Wrote:Hi,
my uncle bought an AE86 a couple years ago, new, and he put like 3000km on it before garaging it for over 10 years. The car hasn't moved since.

I was thinking of buying it off him and fixing it up but I am worried that it might not be worth the trouble. Considering I might be able to get it moving without too much effort I'm still worried that it might start falling apart due to age and lack of use.

I haven't gotten it checked yet to see what needs replacing so I'm just considering worst/best case scenarios for now.

I'm not a petrol head by any means, I'm just looking for a good solid first car that will not give me too many headaches and obviously not waste all my money.

I'm not sure from what year the car is but it looks exactly like this:

So do you think under these circumstances the car could be restored into a decent reliable vehicle? I know I didn't give much details but it's all I know at the moment. So worst/best case scenarios...

Thanks!

chek it from A to Z,take notes , caculate $$$ if not cool to you leave it ,but if is cool
just do it 1!!!!
