mild cams... is it worth it?
Hi all.

im soon gonna be swapping my Levin for a nice stock Tureno and im looking into mild tuning.
with regards to cams is it worth using mild cams on a stock ecu or is it a waste of money?

cheers

that realy depends how you drive it and what other mods you have (exhaust in particular) - the oem cams run out of breath a bit below 7k rpm if you want more cams are sure worth it... I'd have a look at the first two catcams.com they have a bit higher lift along with more duration and work quite good on the stock ECU as long as you modify the exhaust a little (if you still have the OEM unit, changing the bit going over the axle helps alot - as it's the most restrictive part)

i will be putting in an aftermarket manifold, exhaust & it already has an aftermarket filter.
what profile would you recommend? it will be used as a daily drive & for occasional track days.

catcam 7105137 was working good on robokills car - this is at the limit of the stock valvesprings and ECU - I think his was running a bit lean at the top - his bottomend was rebuild with bigger pistons though and higher CR if I'm not mistaken. iirc they are 399Euro for the set (cam wheels aren't necessary either - especialy as long as you run the stock ECU).

I myself will go for 7105148 or 9 but this needs quite some changes to the valvetrain... I intend to keep it as dailydriver too but then again I'm not too fused about economy Smile

EDITED price as I made a typo

I do believe robokill's car was dynoed at about 133hp to the wheels. More than many silvertop 20v's that where dynoed at the same place.

With your setup you will lack the higher compression ratio and the fresh bottom-end plus some headwork of robo's setup.
I'm not experienced enough with these things but I would think anywhere between 110-120 to the wheels should be possible.

that sounds about right - unfortunately there are so many aspects to it so it's realy difficult to put concret numbers down.
