I also have a set of Advans A3A, size is 14x6'' +6 ET, I think it was the most common size for these. Maybe yours are the same? Yokohama kept producing them in that specific size specially for the AE86 until year 2000 (this kind of thing won't happen in today's worls for sure ). But of course they also produced them in many sizes up to 8'' in other periods before sticking to that specific size. I love these wheels, btw... I replaced my OEM -and heavy- steelies with them and they helped handling and turn in noticeably. Steering is also a bit lighter. At 4 Kg per wheel they're fairly lightweight. Really impressed, even with crappy old rubber. Upholstery work looks amazing, as the whole car does |

I'm pretty sure mine are also that size, it's fitted with 185/55 R14 which isn't particularly wide and they still look meaty enough from the sides. Was thinking about adding a set of Work Equip 01 in wider dimension eventually, next year or so.(05-23-2017 08:51 PM)decryphe Wrote: I don't know offset and width of the wheels, but I think it's the rather narrow 6.5 inch ones. Preliminary measurement results from Chip-Racing are in, here's the graphs (FTP-72 driving cycle):
I haven't yet been able to figure out how to convert ppm to g/km, as I just know the distance travelled (as of the driving cycle), not the air flow out of the exhaust. Apparently this is a value that's too high (especially NOx, Japan didn't care about those at the time, they focused on CO and particles). The verdict and following tasks are now these: 1) Install new catalyst for NOx reduction 2) Install a new ECU or piggy-back (either Greddy E-Manage or a Megasquirt) and tune it to pass the driving cycle 3) Replace the resonator to reduce noise, as it's a little too loud as is (this is also something I'd have done anyways...). They suggested a large Magnaflow resonator. One step at the time, but slowly (and expensively) getting to drive a JDM AE86 in Switzerland. As usual in Switzerland: Anything's possible, but it can turn very expensive. |

Neither quick nor cheap, but you should stop by once at the garage.

Time for some updates!
First comes the fact that the car has now passed the rigorous emissions and noise tests with flying colors. The adaptions made by the garage were all that was needed: New cat and an additional center muffler (Mittelschalldämpfer). That hurdle is taken, next up MFK. I did have an appointment at MFK to get the car tested and hopefully accepted. First off: I still have work to do. The expert was very happy with the condition of the car (no rust, everything working perfectly), so he was visibly pained by not being able to let it pass. Reason for not passing, is that the suspension is obviously not stock. In total I have to do something about all these parts: 1) Suspension including stabilizers 2) Steel braided brake hoses 3) Strut bar in the front (crash safety) 4) Wheels Either I need a paper for all of the parts that shows they've been tested (=expensive), or I have to find another way. Either way, at this year's Japan Classic meet, I met the expert from Toyota that I had been in contact with about the car and Swiss regulations. He was very helpful by providing me with a paper that tells officially that the car is mechanically identical to the Swiss homologated AE86 from back in the day. So I am now free to get parts with Swiss papers and add them to the car. What he also did, was to write that TRD is actually part of Toyota and thus TRD parts would be considered as original on this specific vehicle. What this would mean at MFK, I don't know yet, I'll have a chat with the expert at MFK for that. If he agrees, then I might be able to get suspension parts from TRD without having to have a Swiss paper for them. Current course of action: 1) Get the G'Reddy suspension kit *link* and the Cusco stabilizers *link* 2) Figure out what to do about braided brake hoses 3) Try to argue that a TRD strut bar would be considered original 4) Get the A3A tested and get the proper paperwork, unless there's a company that's willing to make that paper for me So, on to the next round of paperwork! |

Sweet. And I hope Germany will allow TRD items as OEM options, too. My AE86 is currently on its way from Japan. My bad luck is that I chose to have a Kouki, and AW11 lenses for the indicator combination does not fit. ;(
If you have any Datenblatt, that could help me with my inspection in Germany, I would gladly accept your help. The upholstery is awesome. |

The rest I've gathered from the interwebs (here, club4ag and searching) and the AE86 Owners Bible, plus my contact at Toyota. That said, Germany should be much easier to get it registered than here. TRD Europe was/is located in Köln, apparently. |
