Kent Cams - Specs
Hi.

In my never ending search for ruining my bank account, I was wondering if my engine would benifit from getting cams with higher lift. Something like the race spec Kent cams.

They have the T1606 camshafts with the following specs:
306º Duration at 0.25mm of lift
256º Duration at 1.00mm of lift.
8.94mm of lift.

Right now I have TRD camshafts with 304 duration and 7.5mm lift.

I do not know what's their duration at 1.00mm so I can't really compare them, since I also don't know at what lift does TRD measure 304 degrees.

I'm trying to get some feedback from people who have installed these camshafts in their engines and what thoughts they have.

I know I will benefit with the increased lift, but I need duration to keep up with the compression ratio I'm running (around 12:1).

Best regards

apardal. the 4age has more use of lift than duration. Getting high duration cams only gives peak power at insane RPM. (which is unstable for the engine)

Take a look at CATCAMS.be

They have camshafts that will go up to 288 or 296 degree but with insane lift.

If you would go underbucket shims (Yaris) and would run cams around 270-288 (between that) with 10mm lift you be making some serious power. (not to mention idiotic torgue for a 4age)

I've also payed attention to Catcams but they tend to have too much lift. I need large duration cams to cope with my compression, but with higher lift than what I have right now.

I'll buy underbucket shims for sure but I'm trying to avoid having to rework my head to fit too big of a camshaft. I know they'll eventually hit the head, but I don't know at what lift.

I also need to know how much lift and duration my hks valve springs can cope with. If you know anything about this subject, I'll be more than happy to hear from you!

Resuming:

1 - How much lift can I go for without having to work my head for camshaft clearance?
2 - What's the maximum lift and duration a HKS valve spring can cope with?

Thank you

1 - 8 / 8,5mm will be a maximum
2 - HKS valves springs can be used with 304°+ / 9mm+

I've just received an e-mail from HKS Europe that says I can go for 10mm lift and 304 duration.

I'll try to confirm the clearance issue! I'm sure 8.5mm is still ok... at least for the intake side, as my friend has a TODA 288 with 8.5mm of lift in the intake.

Best regards

I can confirm that on a big port head you will get just over 1mm clearance with 9.5mm lift cams Thumbs up!
HKS springs are fine with these cams too.

Just let me see if I can sell my camshafts. I'll order new ones from Kent as soon as I sell these.

I think I'll go for a 298º ([email protected]) and 9.57mm lift.

Working the head to get larger cams in is not really an issue, you can do it yourself in a morning with a Dremel

But I'm trying to fit these new cams without removing the head. I would have to buy another head gasket and head bolts.

Best regards
