Mark: lowering means coilovers...end of story. At least when you want it really low. Buying a set of coiloverperches and springs is probably not that more expensive then just a set of lowering springs. Also..when you don't lower the car that much, than switching to coilovers isn't any more difficult than switching springs.
I think you are referring to shortening the housings as too big a project. Well when you want to lower the car a significant amount, its the only option remaining. Just using the lower springs will end up with car bouncing off the bumpstops all the time and offer poor ride quality. Rally race etc has nothing to do with it.
Also, hitting the bumpstops can potentially be very dangerous as the car changes character dramatically.

In the end U end up having to make a choice between either a slightly lowered car and normal lowering springs (why bother changing to AE86?) or a lowered ride and shortened coilovers (makes sense to use AE86 stuff because of cost).

what do you inderstand of really low?? I want it lower 6 cm max..

And the option: ae86 struts, cut out say 50 mm, put in standard e9 shocks

and the rest is standard ae86. But this only as the standard ae86 strut is longer than the ke30 one....

But i don't know the lenght of the ke30 strut and I can't meassure it, because it's my daily driver and i can't pull it out at once...

Is that a reassonnable option??

Ok lets make sure I understand you correctly...You plan to:
Use AE86 struts
Shorten them 50~60mm
Use std.spring perches and springs
Install std e9 shocks
?

If so, then I have the following remarks:
Lowering and stock springs dont go that well together. You have less travel before the tires hit the chassis, so you should still have to get uprated springs.
Whats the extra difficulty of installing a set of coiloverperches? You're already planning to do the difficult bit: shortening the struts. just slap on those coilovers as well and order some medium stiff springs...Should be the easiest way of doing things, probably cheapest too, unless you guess the perfect springrate first time round.

Also, dont forget about the rear! Lowering will mess with the pinion angle (might cause some extra wear in the CV/universal joints). Going to stiffer springs up front will introduce a understeer bias into the car. Relatively minor problems though...

allright, but what are the costs of kinda coilovers , front only??
Maybe if I have the money..I''l do it, for sure..But nowadays I'm a student, starting to graduate so I think next winter the ke30 will be my project car.

And I think the ae86 springs are much stiffer then the ke30 ones..
But I believe you at once and now i want self made coilovers too!!

Smile

And lowering the rear isn't that difficult...just put some lowering blocks between the axle and the leaves..

Mark,

Paradise racing sells these coilover sets with your choice of spring stiffness for 150USD

I ended up paying around 170 euro's for the set + special bearings (GET THOSE) + special adjustment wrench (DONT GET THAT).

I love them!

You can find some info on them here:
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic.php?t=121...&start=125
and if you look at the pictures on my website you can see how we put this together. I'll be shortening my struts when I get my hands on some short stroke koni's.

Luis isn't the fastest (took a month or two before my order got sent) but the quality is well worth the wait.
