Max lift on Vitz valve lifters
Hi

Thinking of converting to the Vitz valve lifters. Do you know if these will also allow a higher lift than the original?

I've seen conversations with the Yaris/Vitz with 11mm lift so yea they allow higher lift. Planning this conversation on my other engine which I rebuild at the moment too Smile

Those lifters are the ones to choose for high lift cams! Pretty sure you get the valve springs to bind 1st, before the bottom of the lifter hits the head. Thumbs up!

It should be the 1.0 you use

Nobody knows how much lift these lifters will accomodate?

From what I can see on the interwebs, the total height of the shimless
bucket is about the same as the bucket with shim. It also appears that
the thickness of the shimless and the bucket plus shim are similar. So
in theory at least, the maximum lift with either type should be much the
same. But unfortunately, I don't have buckets available for measuring.

Lighter weight will be helpful for higher rpm's, and no loose shim is good
for higher lift above 8.5mm or so. If you go above 10mm lift I believe
you have to notch the head for clearance. Plus you will need TRD or
similar springs, and you will need to check when coil bind occurs.

There is very little reliable information on exactly how much lift you can
get with any particular combination, and apparently there can be small
variations in dimensions between heads. Not much help I know, but if
you plan on pushing the limits for a 4AGE, you are going to have to get
hold of a sample Vitz bucket and do the measuring for yourself. That way
you can be sure it's going to work Smile

Pretty much the same height:

They don't allow higher lift because of their height but because they don't have an upper shim Wink
Higher lift with an aggressive ramp will throw the shim out of their buckets...

BTW, the OEM springs will NOT work properly past ~8.5mm.
So the first upgrade should be the springs before the buckets.

pretty much all said already. but to sum it up again in stages.

all stock parts will limit lift to about 8.5mm due to th springs binding

better springs, rest stock will limit lift to about 9-9.5mm due to risk of the cam grabing the shim and leading to disaster.

better springs and solid lifters: lift will be limited by the head design due to the cam hitting the casting around the lifter hole.

if you change all the above accordingly you can go all the way up to around 13mm of lift

I run springs and solid lifters from the yaris (1SZ-FE) with 9.5mm lift - might switch to 11mm once I get it dynoed if there is enough room in the rev range left.

PS: If you go with the yaris lifters I have a set of the thinnest ones (8 pieces) to use for measurement so you can order the right size. You'd have to pay for postage back and forth.
