Megasquirt talk (split from robokills project thread)
[edit] I've split this megasquirt discussion to keep things tidy..we were talking about robkill wanting to install megasquirt along with his new cams.[/edit]
Megasquirt instalation if far from being easy! Good Luck Best regards |

It may not be very easy...but we're all technical guys one way or another so I think we should be able to get around that problem. (I have a bachelors degree in electronic engineering for starters).
Using MSnS-extra code on a V3 baseboard you can even leave the entire wiring loom intact and just use an adaptor cable to your megasquirt. Then using wheel decoding software you can drive the stock distributor if you want. Lots of people have used megasquirt on a 4age before so good basemaps are also available to get started with the tuning (and a wideband 02 wont harm either). FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Also, getting the timing right with the new cams should provide a significant increase in power..just letting the stock ECU guestimate timing might be ok with boost..but just doesn't make sense in NA tuning..Also, wiring in a standalone ecu isn't rocketscience. It takes about a weekend, but its no more difficult then wiring up your stereo system.

And with the borthers vukovic i take the challange of running megasquirt :-)
No serieous i have done some wiring and stuff with ivan. I trust him 200%. I am an IT'er so the software and understanding the mapping should not take me more than a week. And we can maybe make some kits for aeu86 members???? We'll try it on your car first probably...and hopefully in my volvo as well, which is going to be a full custom wiring loom project I suspect.
If things go well I will definately consider helping other people out with this kind of stuff, but I need some succesfull practical experience before I'll touch anyone's car against payment. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Don't worry ivan if we can get the setup running correctly we can make a dyno run with a standard ecu and then with a modified MS :-)
So we can see what we did correct and what we didn't! Cars: "99 Lexus IS200 "86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project) "84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer) Motorcycles: "02 Yamaha R1 "02 Honda Hornet S "08 BMW R1200GS |

Sounds interesting! I'm planning on running MS as well so it would be great if you guys could give some hints
BTW I saw a link to MS made easy or something some time ago, can someone help me out? Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Well you can find some info about megasquirt on http://www.sparkandfuel.com.
That's a guy from the club4ag forums who builds and sells megasquirts, optionally with adapter plug so you can leave everything on the car stock (except the USDM AFM sensor wires). I wouldnt recommend buying from him though...he's not unreliable, but I've heard some stories about really long waiting times and sometimes sloppy wiring because he's a bit too busy. Anyway the basic idea behind the setup is posted in the forum on that site. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

I too have a bachelors degree in electronic engineering, so I guess I can assemble it, but we have a guy in Denmark selling and building MS as well...
Where are you guys going to buy it? And how muchis it? Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

190 dollars for an unassembled V3 pcb with megasquirt 1 ecu complete kit, then another 40 dollars for a stimulator pcb.. All you need to do is solder it, test it and install it.
I thought about buying just the PCB and trying to find all the necessary components at my work, but it's too much of an effort for me to cross reference that digikey bill of materials. And getting a nice looking case is another problem that you get then. If you dont mind I'll try to split this megasquirt chitchat too clean up robokill's project thread. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
