Trust me, there was no time to overthink the situation. There was zero time to calmly ask him to slow down, now or never. Drastic action was needed and the end result turned out the way it should.

As an illustration (for whoever has GT4), take a normal car, and just after the small straight in wipperman accelerate full throttle into the following blind righthander. Let the car pickup speed and drift towards the outside of the corner.
Now try and see what happens the next few seconds..not something you would like to see in real life..let alone with you in the car.

I think that the best way to introduce newcomers to the ring would be driving in front of them..I really don't know anymore...Its the most beautifull track in the world..every other track just bleaks in comparison. But I'm now affraid of recommending it to any of my friends because the risks are enormous..

NoHachi,

Driving in front as an experienced driver you will always drive way faster then the person behind because he will not know how to recognise the lines. I had this following Dick around once on one of his warmup laps, he promised he'd drive slow, but I was way slower because I missed all the steering points. Owh, and he was still driving his Skoda, while I was driving my S2, so it wasn't a performance issue. Pure skill issue...

The only way to prepare someone for the ring, for as far as that is possible, is to have him drive many many passenger laps and to have him visit enough times to see enough damaged cars come off the track to make him realize this is not a sport without risk.

The passenger laps, especially during warmup laps of experienced drivers gives you a good idea about the track and if the driver is able to tell you a bit while you do this, you should be much better prepared to finally drive yourself. Its one thing to tell somebody about the ring, but the only way to make them see is by simply letting them drive along with you.

Pictures will follow soon but here's a small update of yesterdays work:

When I was at robokill on saterday I found a few spots of rust in the boot area. I sanded those down yesterday and got rid of all the rust and sprayed it in with some sink stuff just for a temporary stop. One spot isn't much of a problem, just where the floor of the boot meets the rear of the car, just need to weld some more steel in.

But on my left strut tower there was a tiny bit of rust showing, I grinded and grinded and grinded and eventually found out it almost went straight through! Its still a small spot, not much then a cm2 but it was deep!Sad It's in a hard to reach spot aswellSad

Final spot I found was in the bit where the jack is stored, in the back there is a big rust holeSad Its not a hole that went to the outside, I still need to figure this out, because that place is full of moisty dirt and stuff, really sucks.. I'm gonne need to do more work on that laterSad

Also I started work on my sidelights. I got some sidelights with blinkers in them from Japan. A little disappointed about the state they were in I tried to replace the black part on my lights with the clear orange part from these sidelights. Removing the black part turned out to be a hard deal as its glued in tight and heating it up seemed the only way to go. I finally got them loose, and then I ruined the clear lensSad So thats one side light ready to be thrown away..

So I've desided to cleanup the new sidelights. I've mounted them on my car for now as they are because I've ruined my normal side light.

I'll be taking them off and cleaning them up during the week. The biggest thing I need to do that I'm not sure off is take off the clear lens and spray the inside silver. RIght now my left blinker is silver inside and my right is black (the silver seems to have warn away). sucks...

Awell something to keep me busySmile

Mux, you can use VW GolfII sideblinkers instead og the original. I know a guy who uses a set of those... They are a bit easier to get a hold of Tongue
