Owh man what a nightmare!!
The bridge wasn't available today and tomorow, one of the guys from the shop is using it for his truck So I put the car on drive up stands and started working on her. You can pretty well reach the joint but that damn thing is on TIGHT! I eventually ended up with a large metal bar that I put against it from the underside and with a hamer tapped it up the steering rod, this way it came loose from the steering house. Now that was the easy bit, now that the underside was loose I had to get the topside out. I found out that I got it so far up it had jammed stuck. More hammering from the top and alot of WD40 and it finally slid off. Putting the new one on was alot easier.. I greased the shafts and the inside of the joint and it just slid on. A little help from the wife holding the steering wheel straight and I put it all back together. I only fear I may have put it one notch to far to the right so wonder if my steeringwheel will be 100% level when going straight... awell I can always fix that some other time Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Owh, and incase you are wondering,
with the old one, except for having ruined the thread, it feels rock solid.. so I wonder if this really was the problem. Heck I wonder if there really was a problem in the first place.. we'll see on friday... Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Auch... Sounds like an awful lot of work.
Hopefully you will pass the MOT now. But the whole MOT is still a bit weird though. My mitsu passed yesterday. It turned out it was checked by the same guy who fixed my lambda sonde. How can you do an independent check if you just fixed it yourself for a lot of $$$$? 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Yeah I passed the MOT!
Weirdest thing ever. Arrived early this morning. Walked in: me: I'm here for the recheck guy: Ah, did you get the part replaced? Had any problems with it? me: Yeah the thing was stuck and the lift was accupied so I did the whole thing lying under the car, getting it off took awhile, putting new part on was piece of cake guy: Whow, sounds like you had a busy evening, well I'll go get your car MOTed then, want some coffee? me: Sure.. While he walks away I hear him tell one of the guys working there, register this cars MOT or something like that. 15 mins later guy: Okay, you can come back again later me: Huh, WTF? guy: yups, oktober 2006 we expect you back me: owh ok, so it passed? guy: yeah, have a nice day sir me: uhm, don't I have to pay for the MOT? (I paid 10 euros when the car failed for the checkup, still needed to pay 30 euro's for the MOT itself) guy: nah, thats fine.. So I walk back to my car to find it exactly the way I left it I must say, appart from the part itself costing way to much (which is not something the toyota dealership can do anything about, need to look at Toyota NL itself for that one methinks) I'm pretty pleased with these guys. Friendly at the MOT, know how to appreciate someone fixing up an old car like the hachi roku, and I've got a years worth of care free driving Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |
