Hmmm....I'm curious if the infamous Dasty would work it's magic on engine bays as well. I think I'm gonna give it a go next week.

Today my car does something bad. Idle speed goes up and down when idle. I go visit the toyota garage nearby and maybe they can look on it. They said that can be repair but maybe cost lot of money. Then they check the radiator, I was supprised when I saw the water almost dark brown!!! That must be rust in the radiator. So they ask me to clean it up or do somthing for it.

I feel totally bad today. Maybe someone here could tell me what happend with the idle speed. I am search around on google, found something about O2 sensor and MAF, but I am too N00B about car Banging head . About radiator I am understand because the car has stand still for about 7 years.

But about the idle speed really make me nervous. I should do something before I can go to the previous owner. Its about 100+km to drive to previous owner.

Hey oldskull,

Oops, sounds like you had some normal watter in your radiator. Wouldn't worry to much about it yet though, it may cause some rust but it most of the time looks worse than it is.

Time to flush out the bad stuff, flush the system through, and then add new radiator fluid.

Btw, low level fluids often result in irradic idle speeds aswell so it may be your problem, or part of it anyways.

Fix that first, get some new radiator fluids in your car, then see where you are at. Fix one problem at the time. That little 4AG engine is pretty sturdy, it doesn't quit on you that easily so chear upSmile

Also check all your vaccum lines. Make sure they are all connected and no leaks. Even a pin hole on any lines could cause a hunting RPM at idle.

Thanks guys, I also agree to flush the radiator and put the new one. I will look on it if I can do it myself Huh

UPDATE: I did flushing my radiator today. The water come out almost black color. Really dark brown... I did 3 times but I dont know if I do right. I just open the plastic screw on the bottom of radiator, so the water came out. I fill new clean water, and started my car then turn the engine out and did again. In 3rd time i saw the water came bit clearly but still dirty. I heard from friend that I can use tablet to clean the radiator... I have no idea. But if anyone here have any suggestion please do!

Hey oldskull,

Sounds like you did it good, make sure you leave the top cap of the radiator open aswell, more watter comes out then.

When you use proper coolent it will slowly clean your system aswell. You flush with clean tab watter (coolent is to expensive for that) but you should fill your car with proper coolent, especially in this weather.

Also when you fill your radiator up for real make sure you fill it good. Fill it up to the top, fill your reserviour up, let your car run warm. Let your car cool down and then top up the radiator. There will always be some air left in the system that should find its way to the radiator. The system doesn't cool properly if there is still air in it as its a pressurised system. THe reserviour at the left is just a reserviour, if its filled that doesn't garantee that your system is properly filled.

owh, and after you've driven it for awhile keep checking the coolent, you probably will want to change it one more time a little while later when the coolent has absorbed the left over dirt in your engine.
