I had the same thing with a beams engine I used to have, it was horrible below 3000rpm, had to cruise round at a higher rpm to keep it drivable. I put it down to the light flywheel I had and a few other things. However put it on the dyno, and found out that my AFRs were all over the show and it was about 20hp down on power.

Fitted the factory airbox for the engine, and gained utter shitloads of bottom end power!

As in, 5th gear at 80kph, 2500rpm or so, put your foot down and would pull right off the clock no probs.

I used to have the same thing as well, until I sorted out AFM issues... the car actually felt slower when it had 20hp more and a heap more bottom end, because it never had that surge of accelleration when the rpms picked up... But it sure was a hell of a lot more fun to drive!

I think if you get your car dynoed you'll most likely find that you'll be having AFR issues at low end, most likely because of airflow meter issues.

Thanks for all the input guys. I will be taking it on the dyno as soon as I get the car road legal again, and see how things are looking.

In the meantime, I've been taking it for the odd drive for a bit of fun - just quick second gear runs. Here's a video I put together today.

That whining noise is the damn Bosch 044 fuel pump! I hate that thing. I'll definitely be replacing it in the near future. It's all I can hear when I'm in the car.

I'll get more photos when I get the car back on the hoist.
