I made a big error today during an attempt to do a migration to new forum software and accidentally deleted all existing topic titles. (For the techies: truncate in the wrong database/table)
Unfortunately since the last server upgrade backups were unreadable (empty archives) so that's the second goof up and I had to restore the topic information from the backup of when I did the server upgrade.

I recovered the remaining data thanks to once being a DBA (nowadays I only lead a team of DBAs) and my skills really came at hand here.

I don't think anything is misbehaving currently but if you find anything: please let me know...

For me I have two things on my high prio list:
1. fix backups
2. get a decent test environment (and do less cowboying )

The recovery was quite doable: apparently this version of phpbb was made with no normalization at all.
In the end all that was lost is how frequently the topics have been read and if the topics were a poll. Should be quite okay I guess...

To continue this thread: after half a year I picked up the conversion/migration again. This time with a better (closed) environment where I can do less harm.

Anyway, I have been able to cover large grounds in the past few days and they are large enough to already present you the current state of the migration! Even better: you can already try it out!

I decided to drop the garage functionality for now as the mybb version is not working properly yet. Once it works fine I can reinstall everything.

Of course I still have to do a lot and there are a lot of issues to be fixed:
1. Smileys need to be converted
2. Local moderators need subforum assignment
3. msn/skype/facebook/etc not yet migrated to new user accounts
4. postcounts and reputation do not seem to work yet
5. attachments may not work entirely correct yet
6. images are not resized, so they could mess up the width of your screen
7. no suitable skin/theme yet... Anyone willing to volunteer to make a new skin/design for MyBB?
8. No solution for the frontpage yet...

Also as the logins are better secured I am not able to convert your old password into the new forum. Therefore you need to request a new password. Keep in mind that if you change your password now it could be the case that you will need to reset your password again once the new forum gets live. Also posting new topics or replying to posts can/will get lost.
