New camshafts for 4age -> 160hp
harkes Wrote:So, to summarize:

1. Remove TVIS
2. Flow inlet manifold and head
3. Mill head for higher compression (? : ??)
4: Install camshafts with ??? timing and max 8,9mm lift
5: Install 4-2-1 exhaust
6: Re-mapped ECU

The limit for modifying my current engine is around 1000£. I can buy a used rally engine (ITB, Unichip, Exhaust, 302 - 8,9 cams) with 160hp for around 1500£...

Basically yes, if your running std pistons and valve train then you are limited to lift potential.

£1000 wont get you very far i'm afraid, it'll buy you the components, but you'll probably have to install and fit everything yourself.

Old racing engines can be good, but they can be crap (hence them being sold). They are thrashed, and sometimes not built well at all. I personally wouldnt get an engine running ITB's unless it was running a standalone ecu, running a piggy back system on an ITB inductions setup, with large overlap period cams = screwed map signals and poor performance and massive lope.

I´m struggling on this same issue....

I have considered running piggyback/Apexi AFC to control my 20v itb setup.
But i guess since i´ll be running 268 Shrick cams it will be an impossible task, or maybe just an horrible experience!?
This will be mounted on a 7AGE bottom with smallport head and pistons.

I don't know the specs of the camshafts, but if you are able to decently remap or use a good piggy back system (NOT an SAFC etc) then it could be a nice drive. All our super production based 86's ran on the std type inlet manifold with about 160-170bhp back in the late 80's.

This is a simple tool for such calculations. Also can compare single TB and 4 TB setup CFMs.

This is also usefull article about 4AGE and carburators. Seems that 40s will be good choice for 3000-8000RPM range in 1.6 engine like 4AGE.

They work and run, but it jsut becomes a terrible pain. In most cases i've seen where they come over from japan, the ecu is simply dumping fuel in non stop with no effort for metering it.
