OT: Mazda RX7 FC3S
Could someone post some pics of the FB's? I always thought those had the "SA" designation? Anyone have an idea where I might have picked that up?

NoHachi check this site:
http://rx7.free.fr/saprest.html It would seem that the first generation of first generation rx7 is SA, and the 2nd gen of 1st gen is FB... or so says the above site. |

RX7 SA = First generation RX7 with 12A carb motor, made from 1978 to 1985
RX7 FB = First generation RX7 with 13B carb motor, made in 1984 and 1985 RX7 FC = Second generation RX7 with 13B EFI motor (N/A or single turbo), made from 1986 to 1992 RX7 FD = Third generation RX7 with 13B EFI twin turbo motor, made from 1992 to 200? The FC turbo was named TII because it was the second RX7 with a turbo eventhough its a single turbo setup, there was a factory first gen turbo but never got beyond prototype, there was also a 12A turbo in one of the other RXs factory produced. The FD does have a true twin turbo setup. The SA model actually has about 3 revisions (S1 to S3) but only the FB model was so different due to the 13B motor that it got its own designation. Only the later SA models and the FB model had disk brakes all round and are most desirable. With the FC there are also two revisions, the S4 and S5. The S4 is recognisable by the square lights in the back. Interesting about this model is that the turbo is a "scroll turbo" design. This means that they actually have a dual turbo fan design with a valve making the single turbo acts as a dual turbo with a smaller fan blade running on low RPM and a bigger fan blad running at higher RPM. The system was only mildly effective and on the later model S5 they used normal single stage turbo's. The S5 is recognisable by the round lights and both the N/A and Turbo'ed engine is slightly more powerful then its S4 brother. I don't know how many revisions the FD has but they start at the S6 designation. Confusing eh? Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Thanks Mux...a gen1 with 13B engine, must be a great car to drive!
@Apolan: +1 on the seats...absolutely LOVE them! Rest of the interior looks pretty modern to me..not very different to the FC in layout, must have been pretty advanced for its time. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

There are usually a couple for sale over here in Holland..but I think most I've seen so far have been SA models. Go fairly cheap too.
With 900kgs @ 130hp it should be as fast as a tuned ae86, cool car. But there are many more..1 car in particular is breaking my hart at the moment..A 240Z for sale in the US..4500$, massive SSR rims, yellow paintjob..I absolutely adore this car..wish our little club had a bunch of rich enthousiasts that could easily import this car and take care of it for me. oh yes, nissan at its best (well aside from the kpgc10 gt-r).. im not even going in that exotic area..
interesting, toyota, nissan, mazda had many nice cars in the past. But i cant remember honda making such a car.. it all started with the nsx. or did it? i mean they made the legendary racecar "murasama", in the 60ies, which was the most powerful in the series.. why not make a sportscar too back that up? |
