Oil Pan Issue

Hi all,

Long time since I posted on here.

About two years ago I purchased a new oil pan from these forums.

I'm having to replace my sump plug washer as it's leaking, but strangely the plug/bolt is an m14...so i've made a mess trying to replace it with what it should be...a m12.

Has anyone else had this issue?

What type of washer are you using? I´ve found that a fibre washer will solve the problem 99% of times. copper and aly washers leak!

I don't know what washer is on there but I need to replace the bolt.

So my question is, why is there an M14 instead of an M12 present?

IIRC, the oil drain bolt is a different size for FWD 4AGE's and RWD ones.. my original AE86 bluetop had a bigger drain bolt than the AE92 bigport that replaced it. Just get the correct size washer and you're OK.. How did you intend to replace that bolt, and why should it matter?

Ahhh I did not know that. I assumed it was going to be an M12

I'm almost sure that there were only M12X1,5 and M18X1,5 threaded oil pans from the toyota, so probably it had a bad thread before and someone drilled and tapped it oversize.

It was a brand new sump.
