Oil cooler -> low oil pressure

Not sure about yours... but I've never seen a stock oil temp switch anywhere on the 4AGE engine, in fact I had to add it to mine Hmmmmm, another question for you.... is the oil pressure low when warm, but below 150 degrees? I'm just wondering if you have another problem being masked by the cooler Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |

I thought he meant the pressure sensor
Without the cooler I get 5.25 bar when revved cold or warm. With the cooler I got 2.5 warm and 3.0 cold when revved. Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Oil cooler -> low oil pressure
The smaller the diameter, the faster the oil flows, producing more pressure loss due to the hose friction.
I think you're problem is not "hose related", but curves and other accessories create pressure loss. |

What dia is the hose? Is it possible to mount the Mocal plate backwards?
Got good pics of your setup you can post in here? Andrew |

~9 mm but fittings are smaler. The mocal plate can only be mounted one way. No pics, sorry...
I'll go up to 12mm hoses as I'm sure thats the problem. I convinced myself at least Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

I figure that 12 diameter hoses should reduce the pressure drop by around
60% from what it has been. Cheers... jondee86 |

Jan Pedersen Wrote:~9 mm but fittings are smaler. The mocal plate can only be mounted one way. Yeah, 9mm is really cutting it close if the fittings are a bit thick & crude & more if you've got any 90's in there. It's not the mocal, it's which line goes where! Come up with anything on that RX7's inlet & outlet? I imagine that they can't be reversed without consequences on anything with a built in thermostat. |

The pressure is ok with the bigger hoses

Oil cooler -> low oil pressure
Mocal make 2 different oil cooler adapters / sandwich plates.
One style is thermostatic, and the other style is normal. With the thermostatic one the oil pressure will vary at the oil cooler but would stay steady in the engine (one would hope). With the normal one you should have full pressure everywhere all the time including in the oil cooler. |

Oil cooler -> low oil pressure
Digging up an old thread
Basicly got a stockish 20V BT on Emerald ECU, stacks and exhaust. I was about to fit a oilcooler, for piece of mind, but remembered hearing about oil pressure VVTi issues in the past... My plan was to remove everything from the block and run a mocal thermostatic sandwich plate without any oil filter relocation, using dash 8 hose and a cooler that has the same size as the old one out of the 16V engine. Planned on using Castrol 10W60. After reading this thread, I'm cosindering dash10 instead??? Googled it and came across different opinions, so I'm looking for other peoples opinions on this...
