Ok so i have one now what
Just bought a 1984 SR5. Its not in bad shape. Just normal rust after 20 some years. Kid before me put a 12a blow through carb turbo pice of junk in it and am looking to pull the motor and swap it with a friends used 7m out of his MKIII. Looking for any help. after the current engine and trans are out and sold i plan on going over the body and fixing any rust problems. I am looking for new finders because current ones are rusted out. I have been in love with these cars since I saw my first one take a corner at Mid-Ohio. Any pointers are welcomed.

I would suggest driving it before you convert into a drag car.

You are throwing in the 7M no? Can't be too interested in handling prowess then? Sounds like a puerto rican style drag build to me. Nothing wrong with that.
Why is the 12a a piece of junk? No worky? Not enough hp? Would you mind posting some pics? The setup is quite unique and it would be cool to see how the engine sits in the ae86 engine bay before its torn out. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Ya that would be no problem except i havent got it to my house at my school yet but picks will be coming soon. Im just not a rotary fan. What to 4age's usually go for with trans. I want handling. I mean i would be front heavy with the 7m but suspension could make up for the added weight

Thats not how it works sadly. If the weight balance is off then everything else is compromised. Plus you are adding it to the wrong end of the car. If it was over the driven wheels then you might have made it work. The 7m is just too heavy and sits too far forward. Even a v8 would produce a better base setup.
Just "not liking" rotaries seems like a very unwise conclusion about a setup that might provide enough power at low weight. If its running and puts out more power then the 4age then you would be crazy for not driving it around while things last. Driving is the fun part, the modding is only fun if it improves your driving enjoyment. No? A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

I would have to take the turbo off and replace the apex seals. i just dont think the engine would have the balls to move like i want it to. idk when i get it friday ill see what i think then.
