This thread has made interesting reading as I took delivery of one of these sets late last year and have had it fitted up to one of my cars,it works well looked like it has been factory lapped, and appears to be well manufactured.The only thing that my engineer that set it up for me did was to make a solid spacer for the pinion instead of using the factory collapsible one.The reasoning behind this was the load on a pinion with only 8 teeth would have the potential to compress the spacer further (this is how TRD supplied the 5.3 and 5.1 when they were available). Another friend of mine has just had a 4.89 fitted up with no issues as well, he had a solid spacer made after my recommendations .
Maybe this could be the way for you to install the ones that you have ? Your addiction to motorsport can only be cured by poverty !! |

interesting. Do you know at what length your solid spacer was? And did you have any shim between the pinion and the main pinion bearing?

The spacer length is made to suit your application , it is machined down a few thou at a time until the correct pinion depth is reached, it also needs to be made from a high strength steel, it does away with the need for shims. any good engineer with diff set up experience should be able to do this for you. It's a shame you don't live in NZ ! Your addiction to motorsport can only be cured by poverty !! |
