Poly vs OEM bushings
For some time now, I have been running poly bushings on various parts of my 86, for the most part they are fine and do their job. However, the one area that seems to get to me is the noise produced by the upper and lower links in the rear axle. And I'm not just talking vibrations and road noise, but squeaking. I've tried spraying them with silicone based lubricant, but it doesn't appear to be doing much. But, each time I push down on the car or move over bumps, there's a rubber squeaking sound that's gotten worse over time. Would anyone have any temporary solutions they could recommend? or has anyone else had this issue before?
I assume the issue could be due to binding? As something of an upgrade, I would like to look at adjustable 4 links (since my pinion angle could do with aligning) but don't know what options there are out there that could produce minimal road noise or come with rubber bushings instead of poly bushings? Does anyone have any opinions on the matter? |

It is possible to permanently fix them... drill the center of your original trailing arm bushing ends, then thread in a zerks (grease) fitting, then use a grease gun... similar to how I did my front lower control. I purchased a T3 adjustable LCA kit and fitted the chassis end with a bushing instead of a hard mount. the bushing end is drilled, and fitted so they can be greased Dan - You can | .... Have had a few polybushed AE86´s, non ever made noises... I think yours must be dry, you could easily take them back out regrease and put them back together, that should last for a couple of years.
the noise will be comming from the insert in the bushing, you can spraylube as much as you like, but it ain´t never getting in there. I´d stay off rosejointed arm, the noise is a lot worse in general, they wear fairly quick, if the car is daily roaddriven. Get traction brackets for pinion angle alingment. 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

I think re-greasing could be an option. They haven't always squeaked, I installed them nearly 6 years ago, so they've done well to hold up.
But change is an option I'm considering to make the car more bearable for commuting, since there's a fair amount of vibration and drivetrain noise being carried over and it's always seemed the case ever since I installed them. |
