Portuguese AE86 with drum brakes in the back??
So, there's this Portuguese 86, that when it was bought it came with the 4AGE, so it was "obviously" an 86, but then I saw it has drum brakes behind. So my questions are: Is it a SR5 with engine swap? Was the AE86 also sold with drum brakes in Portugal? I know the owner, and he told me its an 86, but I dont know if hes lying, or maybe he doesn't even know why there are drum brakes behind
Thanks in advance! |

If it's left hand drive then I dont know of any country aside from the US that sold the drum brake model. (Australia did have these, but right hand drive.)
So a LHD levin with drum brakes on the rear is either a converted SR5 (you didnt mention if it is a levin, but if you say its Portugese, it would have to be) or has a non-standard rear axle swapped in. You could try checking the chassis code for the differential code, that should tell you what the car came with from factory. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Yeah, I forgot to say, but it's a Levin. I was confused because it came with a 4AGE, some SR5 came with a 4A or 4 AC, but not 4AGE. So it's most likely that the previous owner did swap the engine, bit kept that brakes. Next time I have the chance to see it, I'll take a pic of the "VIN" number(I mean the metal plate, forgot it's name in English). I did took a pic of chasis code when I last saw it, do you know where or how I can check the differential code with the chassis number?

Yes, the VIN is what you need, couldnt think of with the correct term earlier.
If it was an SR5 then it has to have been a trueno previously.. kind of unlikely, and you might be able to spot this around the inside headlight brackets (which the trueno doesnt have, so they would need to have been welded on). FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

I also wouldn't be surprised if the some countries pre facelift model had some quirky cost saving involved. The Finnish AE86 had for instance the Japanese GT interior, so SR5/SR style seats and rear bench plus different doorcards. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

So, did you have a look at your VIN yet? Should be near the end in the line where the last 3 characters are T50 (gearbox code), the 4 characters before that should be the axle/differential code.. mine reads T283, which is the 6.7 rear end with LSD. T282 is a 6.7 inch with open diff, the SR5 (6.38 inch) axle codes are S292 and S314.

Ok so apparently I'm dumb, blind, didn't pay attention at all, or all of the previous options, cuz now checking again, theyre not drum brakes, theyre discs. I'm adding a pic just so you guys can confirm if its discs or drum.
