Power_uP builds 1/24
I have a few model kits of the 86, I've been collecting diecast models for a long time (I made a thread about my diecast collection too) and have ended up buying the occasional plastic kit to go with them. The occasional plastic kit for nearly 20 years has led to me having quite a few kits, so I've decided to build some of them. There's a few specific cars I've seen over the years that I want to build models of but I've decided to start with a standard UK spec car.
Having got this kit for my birthday last year, I'm starting with this: I haven't built a model in a while, looks daunting: Here's goes with the primer: I don't know why, but I think gold is the colour for this job. A friend works in a paint shop and was kind enough to mix a can of Toyota 4E1 Topaz metallic: Going UK spec, so decals went on accordingly: Let me know if this is extremely stupid and inappropriate for this forum. Otherwise I'll continue the build when I get time. I already have some cool surprise parts that I think will make this a good project. |

Don't worry, it's 86 related. I have a box full of those somewhere in my basement..

Its been a long time since I last attempted to build a kit and these Aoshima models seem a lot easier to build than the Fujimi kits. I got some more done today. I'm making the car look standard, so the diamond cut pre-facelift wheels are going on. There won't be any more pictures posted until next week probably, the next step is the bumpers, and that will mean modifying the front bumper to look like a pre-facelift UK car. I have the modification planned out. |

This time I've got most of the satin black paint done, in this case its the mirrors, bumpers, spoiler and grill. I also have the interior and chassis completed. The next update will be a big one because I think I'll have the whole car done soon, then I have plans to maybe build a model of the real 86 that I used to own. In these photos, the colour of the interior looks a little off, but it was painted to match the brown/beige colours of a real gold car and photos are just crap.
I need to learn to take better photos, I'll try to get some good photos when the car is finished. I've learned a lot from building this model, here's some advice for anyone who wants to build one of these kits. There's many small and extremely fragile components, so in order to have a few spare parts, buy yourself one of these: The embarrassment of buying a crap model kit is worth it when you break a wiper arm, or lose a mirror and need to take them from that itasha kit that you don't intend to build. |

I'm glad you like it, I'll have it completed by the end of next week. Hopefully I will have figured out how to take better photos too.
It needs some tidying up, but here it is so far: |

This is the first one I've made in years, I was expecting it to take about a month. My cousin usually gets them done in one weekend but he obviously has more experience than me.
The last one I built was a Fujimi kit in 2007, I think that only took a few days but it looked terrible. If I build another one I'll get it done faster because I plan to build a pre-painted kit next. |

So it looks like I'll have the gold one finished this weekend. It'll be a while until I have time for the next build as I have a few other commitments. However...
There will be another build, probably more detailed with the writeup and (hopefully) better photographed. So I'm putting it to a vote, which car do you want to see built? Here are the options (photos removed as they're no longer necessary): Carland's yellow promo Levin. Carland's 20v AE85. An AE85 2-door Lime. The (5 or so) active users on here can vote, and I'll build the one with the most votes. Options are: Carland promo, 20v-85 or Lime. I have the parts to build them ready to go. |

Lime!
I find the Lime very interesting as it doesn't receive the love it deserves, except for this thread: http://www.aeu86.org/forum/Thread-WTB-AE...e-interior 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |
