So small update, did reduce the pile of parts a tiny little bit and did some long overdue service.
- refreshed the distributor (new cap, arm and another thingy) - changed the spark plugs (it had 3 different brands before) - replaced the fuel filler tube (now I can finally put in more than 15 litres in the tank) - replaced the speedo cable (no more GPS necessary to know how fast I'm going - put in the new seatbelts though the'll need some more tinkering before I'm happy. Will try and source some proper ones from a 260 if I can find any. Tomorrow I'll need to finish tracking down the wiring issue I have we the heater fan. I know the motor is good (tested) but I think when one of the previous owners installed the radio they messed something up. Tuesday evening I'll have to go get MOT, so fingers crossed the weather will be dry (else I'll have to postpone it again) and that she passes. Once she passed the test I'll go about fitting all the other stuff and get the carbs recalibrated. Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk AE86 ex-daily |

Update time:
Today I dropped the car off at the specialist. And we spent 3 hours looking it over and accumulating a todo list. Next week I'll receive the estimate which will certainly be a good chunk below the final cost but it will be in very good condition and tested as a Veteran vehicle when I get it back. As racing season is upon us it will be at least August before I get it back Few things on the list: *new floor *rust repair on fenders and skirts *15" wheels *new dampers *new stainless exhaust *all bushings and balljoints *engine is coming out, opened and inspected and fitted with fresh gaskets, seals and carb rebuild *suspension cleaned up and powder coated *fender mirrors *original turn signals *brakes front refreshed and new discs (already replaced the rear) *few more bits and pieces It'll be a long and costly wait but very mich looking forward to getting it back. Once all that is done it should last another half a century. Now I can focus again on the Corolla and get that back up and running. The new engine wont be fitted as vetting it legal is too expensive. Great choice on having fender mirrors, they suit the 240 really well. Do you plan on keeping the original engine, or swapping it for something more modern? RB26?

(They are one of the few that won't void the veteran status) They will be Silver center with a polished dish. 15x7 ET0 with 205/60 tires to keep the look and size of the originals. I could have gone for 8" with 225s but as te car is stock I don't need the sport look. Fortunately it's not trying to reach it as I sure will. My friend has been working on these cares for over 3 decades and knows our rules better than the experts I need to remember to take pictures next time I'm down there. I just did some reading about it, looks like a cool idea that I wish we had here. Sadly I don't have the discipline to keep a 240 stock, the temptation to install arch flares and a huge turbo would be too strong so I have huge respect for Bean for going Veteran. |

Well if our laws were different I would struggle too but let's put it this way my Corolla is a measly 3" wider than stock, to make it legal would mean I have to spend just over 7k GBP for paperwork.
