I disagree with the ability of the standard map ecu to run the ITB's , but do it and let us know

[quote="speed-inc"]Do you have MAP or AFM?
The stock ecu should handle up to 264° with lift around 8.5. I also know someone who had 296° on the stock ecu. He adjusted the fuel pressure and idle was at 2000rpm. gon PostPosted: Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:56 pm Post subject: I disagree with the ability of the standard map ecu to run the ITB's , but do it and let us know Smile Sorry, to inform but both statements are incorrect. The stock ecu was never build to handle a certain duration. The ecu simply can't calculate the firing and fuel beyond certain ranges. (excluding what the cam duration is) And the standard ECU can run ITB''s as it is preformed multiply times. But you will need to modify the 16V tps sensor because the 20v has different wiring. The standard ECU is actually pretty good but you will need to fool it sometimes. And as it stands it will run but not as sweet as programmable ECU would. Because it has the limits that where built in. IMHO put on the ITB's and the cams and see if you can get it to work, if not you always can put the original cams back on until you have money for a proper EMS...

People have got them running, however with a 16 valve ECU, the mapping is all wrong. If you are going to go to the effort, spend the money and include appropriate management in the budget.
Having said that, I have obtained a blacktop ECU, loom and throttle bodies cheaply and one day when I am bored, intend fitting these to my 16 valve. As for vacuum tanks, google golden eagle. |

I've just had a look at the TPS wiring sensor on the 20v, 3 wires are yellow, red and brown, while the TPS wiring sensor for the 16v blue top, are blue, red, brown and blue with red strip. How do i converted TPS sensor wires from 20v to 16v? Thanks |

Why not just install the 16v TPS on the 20v Throttle bodies? It fits IIRC – saves messing around with splicing wires etc and you know it will work to the correct ranges that the 16v ECU will understand.
The weak MAP signal you get from ITB’s will cause issues and over fueling though! http://www.eight-six.co.uk - read the blog! UK AE86 Forum - http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php?m...ghtsixcouk |

I have tried to work itbs with stock Ecu in my car. I used and the 20V tps.
Parrot is wright. The mapping is all wrong. The car got running, but i got crazy fuel consumption,i got a loooot of gas fumes, generally the car was running very rich, it was working like a ported wankel! I also tried to make thinks better with the use of an apexi AFC, but even this didn t work. The car needed 40litres gasoline for 100kms !! So i put them off the car. I reallised that the only way to work them correct is with an aftermarket Ecu and new mapping. |

I have cams and ITB’s to go on my engine shortly. I didn’t want to go standalone (due to cost) and I wanted to retain the factory sensors and wiring.
I picked up an Emanage blue at the weekend which I intend to use to run the engine and map it to work with the ITB’s and cams. I am currently making a bridging loom between the engine harness and the stock ECU – so everything is plug and play. I will post details up on how I did this when it’s finished (probably later this week). My set up will use the stock MAP, TPS and injectors, I won’t need to chop or cut any wiring. So with any luck for £200 I will have everything I need to run ITB’s / Cams which is basically plug and play and has OEM reliability & functionality. With the vacuum tank – its been covered a few times on here but you can make your own. A spare 16 fuel rail – some threaded hose barbs, a few blanking plugs and you have what you need for scrap money! http://www.eight-six.co.uk - read the blog!
