Registration & Other Legal Stuff
So herez the deal; since i probably wont find a hachi in my country , i will have to import one from EU. Getting the car into the state wont be a problem since, Slovenia is now also in EU and we have no customs.. But theres a problem. our laws prohibit the registration of any imported car, that isnt coherant/compatible/goes with the "Euro2" norm. I know you pay some taxes for cars like that, but u can still get the "trafic allowance/approval" or i dont know how u call it.

So how do you do it??? After you import and bring home the car from some other EU country.. What must i do?? And what happens if a car isnt from EU, and is lets say from england, japan, croatia..

Tnx alot!

Apolan,

By Europian law any car that is allowed to be on the road in a Europian country is allowed to be imported into any other EU country. There are some additional rules some countries carry that are legal to a point, for instance I know that Tjechie doesn't allow cars older then a certain number of years to be imported. But since the hachi was sold in several europian countries and has type approval in a number of those countries, no europian country may deny import of a hachi based on type. Only new cars need to be complient to the latest europian guidelines for car construction.

That said,I have no knowladge of Slovinian law, best man to answer the question would be Dreja, he did import his car afterallSmile

Tnx mux213!

But as i said, there might be a problem w/ the registration (to get the cars slovenian traffic licence), since people here say that in order to do that you the car must be "Euro2" approved (emmissions control). But here i read people do it with no problems..

Dreja haven't acctually imported the car. He bought the only 86 that was here. this car was imported probably some 10-15 years ago or so.. i dunno, Dreje might have a better knowlidge of the background.

Tnx!

Hmmm, you don't suffer the same problem as the hungarians? They are only allowed to import cars not older than 6 year old. Undecided

if i understood it well, that 6/7 year rule is only when you import a car from outside the EU.

or did i misunderstood that part?

Right! Only if the car is not from EU.

But the problem isnt geting the car in, its the registration. If the imported car doesnt meet Euro2 norm (in practice every car older than '94 doesnt) you cant get the papers to put it on the road.

But since i saw many people import a car from EU and bring it to Nedherlands etc. they just pay some taxes and the car is on the road np. So i wonder how it is with that?

importing a car into the Netherlands isn't very easy.
Most cars which weren't sold here (like the EP8 starlet turbo f.i.) also need some tricks to get it on the road here (f.i. via UK or Germany).

//edit: damn, i really need some sleep, i'm not reading it well Smile

From a EU country into the Netherlands isn't a big problem indeed, just a bag of money needed Smile

Apolan,

Because the law in Holland, and asfar as I know the EU, is that a car is allowed to be imported if it has type approval in atleast 1 EU country.

Type approval has been given to the car before it was allowed to be sold originally, type approval for a car is year bound, a car approved in 1984 can not suddenly not be legal because in 1994 the rules changed.

Asfar as I know, but I could be wrong, it is europian law now. So if Slovenia tells you you cant import a car from another EU country eventhough that car has type approval, but doesn't meet some modern day standard, then Slovenia has a law that is illegal and can be though in a europian court.

Then again, so is BPM tax in holland, it is illegal as hell in EU but we are still keeping it....

Once again; no problems w/ the import, gettin the traffic licence is the problem since the car doesnt meet Euro2 norm.

So i figured, just buy the car (or only the papers) of a '87 Corolla dx or a '88 Corolla HB, ditch the car, hammer in the chassis code of a '88 Corolla HB onto my imported 86 and simply use the papers of the '88 Corolla HB.. they wont know will they?
